the opening minutes of
the final period.

Signal -Stars dump Strathro
The Goderich Signal -
Star Juveniles won their
opening game of the
Shamrock League
schedule here Sunday
with a 7-3 victory. over
Strathroy.
The Stars opened up a
3-1 margin after one
period of play, saw it
dwindle to a single goal at
4-3 after two periods and
then added three straight
goals in the final period to
clinch the win.
The game was loosely
played and despite an
obvious talent advantage
over Strathroy the Stars
had difficulty putting the
puck in the net. They hit
posts, crossbars and
sometimes the Strathroy
goaltender, who was
standing in the right
place.
Goderich took an early
one -goal lead with Greg
Hallam scoring on an
unassisted effort after
just 18 seconds of play.
Strathroy tied the score
with Todd Jewell scoring
at 56 seconds but
Goderich got goals from
Roger Lewis and Steve
Lobb in a 30 second span
to hold a two -goal bulge
after the first period.
Goderich increased
that lead to 4-1 early in
the second period with
John Clement scoring
from linemates Lobb and
Terry Shoemaker.
But while Goderich put
the puck everywhere but
in the net Strathroy got
back in the game with a
pair of goals by Fred
Nidolas.
Goderich finally
regained a two -goal
margin late in the second
period on Clement's
second goal • after Don
Elliott made a fine play to
keep the puck in the of-
fensive zone.
Larry Daer and
Shoemaker added third
period goals for the Stars.
Brian Shewfelt and
Mike reynolds shared the
netminding duties for the
Stars.
Each team
assessed 14 minor
penalties in the game.

Lions win second game
The Goderich Lions
Pee Wees defeated
Wingham, 5 - 1, in
exhibition hockey -action
here Saturday night. The
victory gives the Lions a
record of one victory and
one tie in pre -season play.
The I.ions will face the
biggest challenge of their
pre -season schedule this
Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
when they take on the
Stratford Minor Pe`e
Wees at the Goderich and
District Community
Centre.
Here last Saturday, the
Lions skated through a
scoreless first period with
Winghani, but took the
lead with two- unan-
swered goals in the
second period. Ken Huff
got the first Goderich
goal, finishing off a
passing play with Todd
Graham and Trevor
Martin. Trevor Erb
scored the Lions' second
goal, assisted by
linemates Rob Gibbons
and Grant Garrow.
Billy Cameron put
Wingham back in the
game when he beat Rob
Dunn in the Lions' net
with a close -in shot just
before the midway point
of the final period.
However, that seemed to
inspire the Lions to
greater effort, and they
put together an offensive
thrust that netted them
three goals before the end
of the game.
Rob Gibbons scored on
an unassisted effort and
then Brent Williamson
scored the prettiest goal
of the night, taking a
perfect. 'pass from Ken
Huff from the right
boards, and beating Greg
Moore on the short side.
Todd Graham received
the second assist on the
play. The Lions' final.
tally came off the stick of
Todd Graham when hr.:
went in all alone to deke
the Wingham goaltender
after being started away
with a pass from Shawn
Rahbek.
Overall, the game was
an entertaining one, and
it appears as thought the
Lions Pee Wees will
provide some fine hockey
for their fans this season.
