The Travels of Ms.
Beaver and Ms. Beaver
Travels East are two
excellent stories for
children. They are
published by The
Women's Press . which
has operated as a non-
profit organization since
its beginnings in 1972. It
has gained recognition
throughout North
America, England,
Europe and Australia.
Children's publications
are selected according to
what is enjoyable, what
will educate, and what
will reflect real world
issues.
Ms. Beaver is a con-
scientious citizen living
with her family in
Belwood, Ontario:' She
satisfies her wander -lust
by hitchhiking to Toronto
where she explores the
museum, city hall,
restaurants, and even-
tually Riverside Park.
Here she instinctively
builds a lake -as beavers
are prone to do- but faces
imprisonment for doing
so without a licence. The
mayor seizes the incident
for his election platform
and soon the children are
both swimming and
skating. on, the safe and
legal lake. With her
freedom in tail, our
heroine is off to see more
ofthe. world.
Ms. Beaver Travels
East is a•• similar
ecological adventure.
This time Ms Beaver
solves a fish cannery
problem in Nova Scotia.
Ann Powelll's line
drawings enhance the
appealing picture books.
Both travel to the actual
location of the story to
authenticate details.
