Little leads Vike
to 13-9 victory
BY: TD
The GDCI. senior
Vikings finished their
regular Huron Perth
Confelfence Football
schedule with an un-
defeated record by virtue
of their 13 - 9 victory over
the Exeter South Huron
Panthers here last
Thursday, but for the
second time in their four
game schedule, the
Vikings were hard-
pressed to emerge with a,
win.
Two weeks ago, the
Vikings pulled out a 16 - 12
.victory over the Stratford
Central Ramblers with a
touchdown with six
seconds remaining in the
game. Here last Thur-
sday, the Vikes held a
slim 7 - 2 halftime lead
over the Panthers, upped
'that to 13 - 2 on the
strength of Randy Little's
fourth quarter touch-
down, but then had to
hold on after the Pan-
thers struck for a con-
verted touchdown that
brought them within four
points of the lead.
It was Little's power
running that gave
Goderich their early lead
when he went 60_ yards
for a touchdown in the
first quarter. Eric Mit-
chell converted.
The Panthers got on the
scoreboard with a two-
point safety touch
credited to Doug Hoff-
man in the second
quarter.
Little's last quarter
touchdown came on a
three yard dive play,
following a downfield picking up 230 of them.

Although Exeter
controlled the ball most
,of the game,•it 1Qoked as
' though the Vikings might
cone out with a win until
the last five minutes of
play. At that point, the
Vikings held a, 14 - 0 lead,
but the Panthers struck
for two touchdowns, a
convert and a two-point
conversion to take the
victory.
The only reason the
Vikings had the luxury of
their 14 point lead so late
in the game was the fact
'that they had made three
successful goal -line

yards compared ,to the
Vikings 277 yards, and
had 18 first • downs
compared to the Vikings'
nine. The' Viking's yar-
dage came mestly from a
few big plays while the
Panthers ground theirs
out with a consistently
strong running attack.
Touchdowns by Dave
McDonald and Mike
Wedlock, both of which
were converted by
McDonald, had staked
the Vikings to their lead
before the roof caved in
on them. McDonald's
major came on a five
yard counter play in the
second quarter while
Wedlock's was on a 60
yard blast play, in the
third quarter.
Gary Spurn scored the
first South Huron touch-
down on a two -yard run
and then-- B-il-1 Glover
caught a pass -for a two -
'point convert. In the last
minute of play, John
Kernick scored on a
twenty-five yard reverse
and Doutrg•—•Fisher con-
verted for the winning
point.
The Viking defence
played well, but finally
was unable to withstand
the pressure exerted by
the fired -up Exeter team
in the fourth quarter.
Some of this was due to
the fact that 'a few of the
Vikings who were going
both ways finally suc-
cumbed to the relentless
Panther pressure.
Viking coach Brute
Baker put the blame on
himself for some bad play
selection, which, along
with some dropped
passes and costly tur-
novers, put Exeter in
good field position
several times during the
game.
The Vikings have a bye
this week, and see their
next action -in Listowel
next.Thursday.

goals of the period to pull

Graham got his second of
the night, with assists

Todd Jeffrey and Peter
Conlon scored on a play
with Jeffrey. However,
Lucan came back with
two of their own, both off
the stick of Les Art's, his
second and third goals of
the game.
Trevor Erb made it 5-5
when he scored on passes
from Scott Stokes and
Grant Garrow, but Lucan
scored twice within 20
seconds to grab a 7-5 lead
with just over four
minutes left in the game.
Paul Foran and •Br.ent
Bann•erm,an were the
Lucan marksmen.
The Lions were not to
be denied, however, and
roared back with two
quick goals to tie it up
ag in. Rob Gibbons, with
his second of the game,
from Trevor Erb, and
Grant Garrow on a solo
effort with 2:10 left in the
game gave Goderich the
