" Moore told council Monday night Sportsfest is a weekend of fun and competition involving residents off many communities in the Lake Huron Zone Recreation Area. He said the area in that zone involves Huron, Perth, Gre: , Bruce and North Wellington counties and could attract 2,000 participants to Goderich. The rec director said the purpose of Sportsfest was to promoted to encourage good sport- smanship, fun and low key competition in sports that normally have a low participation level. He said some of the events are archery, euchre for senior citizens, horseshoe pitching, shuf- fleboard for seniors, soccer, T -ball, tennis, girl's softball, men's slowpitch, swimming, women's softball and table tennis. Council gave Moore the go ahead to sell the association on the idea of Goderich hosting the weekend event. ++++ Council asked its representative on the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital board if his recent rise to chairman of the board gave him any type of conflict of interest. Gord Crabb appeared before council Monday night to report on his doings on the board and was asked by councillor Brian Knights if he felt his chairmanship gave him any type of conflict. Crabb responded by saying he had already been asked that question and felt there was no conflict. He said he felt he could adequately represent the town on the board and still serve as its chairman. Reeve Eileen Palmer told Crabb she didn't feel that decision was "in your hands" and suggested the question be put to a more expert source. She said Mike Smithers, a representative of the ministry of . intergovernmental affairs, had cleared up other areas where there was concern over conflict of interest and suggested he be contacted for an opinion. Councillor Elsa Haydon told council the courts decide on conflict of interest and suggested the matter be left with the courts. Bylaw enforcement officer Dick Eii$ler_tald__ council there has been a rash of incidents lately where people have been attacked and bitten by stray dogs. Eisler said in all cases the victims of the dogs were on- their own .property whena they were bitten. He said four animals were taken to the pound recently after they attaeked and bit people and two had been placed in close quarantine by the medicalofficer of health. Eisler said there have beenore cases of dogs attacking and biting this . th t eney ha been for the past -five years' Ft adiden a tlt lhe' di not knotty why it was happening. "People aren't feeding their dogs enough," quipped mayor Harry Worsell. ++++ Council refused to support a resolution from the townships of Wainfleet, Nftara-on-the-Lake; and Pelham to have equalized assessment shelved. Reeve Eileen Palmer told council what would be a penalty for those areas under equalized assessment would be a benefit to Goderich and vice versa. She recommended letter asking for "support be filed. David Barber, a planner with Municipal Planning Consultants, made two small slipups in his request for work that tipped his hand for council. Barber sent a letter to council noting the town was preparing brief on proposed changes in the provincial Planning Act and told council he would be glad to help out on the brief. Council was not aware of any brief and suggested a letter be sent to Barber advising him of such and thanking him; for his concern. Commissioner of Works Ken Hunter told ;council the only thing that may have prompted Barber to send the 'letter was a request the town's planning board sent the government asking for more time to comment on the affects of the changes to the Planning Act. "I think he just heard about that and is looking for work," said Hunter. "I see the letter is directed to mayor Eileen Palmer maybe she'd have the awnser," joked deputy -reeve Bob Allen noting Barber's error. "That's easy to take," said Palmer.
