Pope's visit impressed millions of people

ceremony of Frances Ann Logtenberg of R.R. 1
Dungannon and James t,Stanley Farrell of R.R. 3.
Ripley. •
The bride is the daughter of Derk and Tinie
Logtenberg of R.R. 1 Dungannon and the groom is the
son of Jack and Janet Farrell of R.R. 3 Ripley.
The Reverend Douglas Kaufman of Lucknow 'of-
ficiated at the double ring ceremony., Miss Shelly
Rivett was the organist'and Mrs: Debbie Culbert was
the soloist. The processional music played was "Love
Divine All Love's Excelling" and "Praise to the Lord
the Almighty". The solos sung were "Lord Make Us
Servants of Your Peace" and "The Wedding Song".
The -bride -was given ih marriage by her parents. She
worea gown of polyester satin in Victorian style with a
train, lace yokes, and sheer sleeves gathered into lace
covered cuffs. A- lace border decorated the bottom
edge of ,.the dress and train. A Juliet cap held the
fingertip veil with appliqued roses.
The bride carried a bouquet of red roses, white
carnations and baby's breat17,°.She also carried a small
crocheted bag with heirloom clasp.
Matron of honor was Mrs. Reina Arnold of R.R. 4
Kincardine. She wore a flowered sheer jacket over a
long dusty rose halter -style dress with blouson waist
and shoulder straps. She carried a bouquet of pink
verigated carnations, white daisies and baby's breath.
Bridesmaids were Irene Logtenberg of Kitchener
and Janice Farrell of London. They were gowned
similarly to the matron of honor.
Flower girl was Melissa Logtenberg of R.R. 1
Dungannon. She wore a dusty rose colored dress with
long sleeves, ruffled yoke and.gathered-waist. She
carried- a'basket of pink verigated carnations, daisies
and baby's breath.
The bridal attendants all wore silver chains and
pendants, gifts from the bride.
Groomsman was Bruce Aitken of Wilmore, Ken- 'I
tucky. •
Guests were ushered into the church by Garry
Farrell of Kincardine and Simon Logtenberg of R.R. 1
Dungannon. .
The groom. wore_a_brown.tuxedo-with-a white ruffled-
shirt trimmed in brown and a red rose boutonniere.
His attendants wore brown tuxedos with cream ruffled
shirts and pink edged carnation boutonnieres.
Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was
held in the Lucknow Community Centre.
The bride's mother greeted guests wearing a slate
,blue polyester satin cocktail length dress with -V-neck,
blouson waist: three-quarter.length sleeves, blue lace
vest and corsage of pink sweetheart roses,
The groom's - mother assisted wearing a --.berry
colored jersey cocktail length dress gathered at the
neck and waist with three-quarter length slit sleeves
and a corsage of white roses with pink edges.
Special guests at the wedding and reception in-
cluded the bride's grandparents, Mrs., Fern de Boer
and Mr. and Mrs. Gerritt Logtenberg and the -groom's
grandmother Mrs. Ada Farrell and' great-aunt Mrs.
Sadie Slade.
Other guests attended from London, Alberta,
Indianna, British Columbia, Elm vale, Guelph, Sarnia,
Woodstock, Kentucky and Kitchener.
For a one week wedding trip to the East Coast, the
bride changed to a two piece medium blue colored
dress with Peter Pan collar and a corsage of yellow
silk roses, The groom changed to a three-piece beige
suit with a single yellow silk rose boutonniere. . -- -•
Mr. and Mrs. Farrell are residing at R.R. 3 Ripley
on the family farm. •
Prior to the wedding, the bridr was feted at a
relative shower at the home of Mrs. Janet Farrell; at
a girlfriend shower at the home of Mrs. Phyllis Boak;
and at a community shower at the D.ungannon United
Church.

of all faiths who viewed
the travels of Pope John
Paul II during the past
week could not help but
be impressed by the
untiring devotion of this
man to the duties of his
position. For six
exhausting days he was
constantly before the
eyes of millions, meeting
countless people,
delivering address after
address and, through it
all, exhibiting a warmth
of personality that
prompted, the press to
call him "John Paul
Superstar".
He came to North
Minister's
study
America specifically to
address the United
Nations. In his lengthy
speech, he dealt with the
dignity of man and the
sacredness of human life.
His words were designed
to stir the consciences of
the leaders of • nations

GLENN ROBERT
SLAVIN
Glenn Robert Slavin of
Goderich Township died
in Huronview on Wed-
nesday, October 3 at the
age of 68.
He was horn in Hensall,
Ontario on January 20,
1911 to Elizabeth (Last)
and William Slavin.
He lived in Hensall
until 1956 when he moved
to Goderich. He had been
a farmer until 1956. After
that, he worked at
Baechler's Mill until
retirement in 1972. "w
He was predeceased by
his first wife, Dorothy
Elgie,in 1972.
On November 9, 1974 -he
married Elsie Scott in
Goderich. Following the'
marriage, they moved to
Goderich Township.,
He was a_member
Victoria, Street United
Church.
Besides his second
wife, he is survived , by
one brother, Thomas
Slavin of Exeter.
He was predeceased by
one sister, Ida, and two
brothers, William and
Frederick.
A funeral service and
committal were' held at
Stiles Funeral Horne in
Goderich ,on Saturday,
October 6 t 11 a.m. The
Reverend John D.M.
Wood officiated.
Interment was in
Maitlandbank Cemetery,
Seaforth.

182 held a service at the
funeral home on Friday,
October 5 at 9 p.m.
WILLIAM HENRY
TRAXLER
William Henry Traxler,
a resident at the,Seaforth
Nursing • Home, died in
Seaforth Community
Hospital on Thursday,
October 4 at the age of 72.
'He was born in the
United States on Sep-
tan bee 22, 1907 to
Margaret (Riley) and
John Traxler.
He came to Canada
when he was three -years -
old and settled in Sarnia.
He later, worked as a
labourer at Douglas
Aircraft Plant.
He was an adherent of .
the United Church.
He, is survived by two
daughters, Margaret
Traxler of R.R. 4 Kin-
cardine' and Mrs. David
(Nancy) Brown of Tara;
.-two sons -,-James of -R, -R-3
Blenheim, and David
John' (Jack); one sister,
Mrs. John (Bessie)
Walker of Gaines,
Michigan; five grand-
children:. and dear
friends, Jim and Marion
Hayes of Goderich.
He was predeceased •by
one son, Henry George in,
1963: and two brothers..
A funeral service was
held at ' Stiles Funeral
Home in Goderich on
Saturday, October. 6 at 2
p.m. The Reverend
Robert J. Crocker of-
ficiated.
Interment was in the
Maitland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Len
Kunkel, Maurice Hayes,
and Rick, and' Dave
Brown.

Curtain and from the
Western world where
human rights are being
trampled upon.
His Visit to the
American people, which
occupied the greater part
of his time, was a visit of
a loving father to his
spiritual children. And
they responded en-
thu'siast•ically! They
came by the hundreds of
thousands to the places
where he was • to be,
taking up positions hours
before he was due 'to
arrive. Anyone wit-
nessing these gatherings
on TV knows that 'they
were well rewarded for
their efforts.
But the. Pope did not
come to North America
just to be seen. He was
fuly conscious of his
position as Head of the
Catholic Church and the
official teacher of its
doctrine. -
There was much
speculation before he
arrived. Would the Pope
speak out on the thorny
issues of morality that

his listeners. His
declarations were very
clear.
Regarding abortion, he
repeated what he and his
predecessors in the
Papacy had said again
and again: that to ter-
minate, the life of an
unborn child at any stage
in its development in the
womb, was the crime of
murder,
Regarding divorce, he
yielded in no way to those
who were asking that the
Church take a more
liberal stance: marriage
is indissoluble; what God
has joined, man must not
divide.
Regarding- sexual
freedom, he made it very
clear that there is only
one situation in which
sexual acts have their
legitimate place: bet-
ween husband and wife.
The explosive issue of
contraception was dealt
with in this fashion: all
actions of man that in-
terfere with the normal
outcome of sexual
relations are sinful. In
this declaration, he was
re -affirming the
teachings of the late Pope
Paul VI.
Finally he spoke on a
matter that only recently
has become an issue:
homosexuality. He ex-„
pressed concern for the
