The Goderich Signal-Star, 1979-10-11, Page 20Branch 1 9 plans awards dinner The October meeting of Goderich Legion Branch 109 was held in the Vimy Court Lounge with first vice-president Walter $heardawn in the chair. From the correspon- dence it was noted ,that the District "C" con- vention will be held at Kincardine Branch on O tober 21 and that the Strvice Bureau Officer, Clare Wall will be present at Branch 109 on October 30. Any veteran who wishes to make an ap- pointment is requested to >® ervi contact the Branch Service Officer, Harold Young, by mid-October. A letter from the Ladies Auxiliary requested the assistance of the Branch members when .they hold their annual Christmas party for the veterans from Westminster. The awards dinner committee dhairman, Comrade Neil Shaw reported that plans are completed for the Honors and Awards dinner on Saturday, October 27 when the guest speaker bure will be the President of Ontario Provincial Command, Comrade Rick Collins. The chairman reported that both members of the Branch and Auxiliary and their' spouses are invited and that tickets are available at the .anteen. From the Community. F -ograms chairman, Comrade Maurice Wi kinson, it was learned that the poems and essay materials. have been - distributed to tire -schools. A motion was passed to u officer coming purchase plaques as prizes for this contest. Comrade Eleanor Worsell, who is replacing Comrade John Sprung as sports chairman, .outlined the future' sports program which is to include more activities. for the associate and fraternal members. Comrade Ray Barker reported that in the past month he had made 12 visits to sick comrades and that the following comra-d-e•s- were hospitalized as of October 5: in Alexandra Marine - Harold Hibbert, Ben Wilcox, Bill Chase, Harry Philips and Mary Vickers; in University Jim Queen, Anne Drennan and Iry Schneider; in St. Joseph's - Joe •M'ombourquette; in Strathroy - Cyril Such; in Westminster - Dave Wilson, Bert Mohring and Wm. McGill. Recuperating at home are Harvey Johnstone, Chris Brownlee, Alex Smith, Archie Barber, Ken Jones, Mel Bennett, Bill Bradley, Leroy Taylor and Shirley Smith. Private Doug Houston of St. Catherines and Private Perry Fisher of Goderich, were both flown over from Canada to augment C.F. personnel during the exercises.
