The Godelich Airport Horticultural Society The Horticultural Society met last Monday for an open meeting in the Coin•munity Hall. The president, Mrs. Dorothy Grange opened with a poem, followed by song with Mrs. Donald Haines as •, pianist. She welcomed all to the meeting and mouth organ solos werce played by Mr. Ross Robinson ac- companied by Mrs. Haines. Mrs. Grange in- _ troduced the guest speaker Mr. Heinz Hoernig of Benmiller. His topic was the Maitland Trail Association which was established in 1975 by the ministry of natural resources. He told about the trail from Goderich to Auburn along the banks of the Maitland River and showed interesting pictures and many wild flowers that are found along the trail at all seasons of the year. He stated that in the near future. it is hoped to continue the trail up to Wingham along the b.anks of this picturesque river. Civic Corner Goderich Town Council Mt': and Mrs. Ed Haines of Niagara Falls visited on the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Donald Haines. Also special thanks to Mr. Robert Worsell and Mrs. Grange for taking the baskets down. A beautiful display of chrysanthemums and roses and other fall flowers brought by the members were enjoyed. Walkerburn Club Holrnesvilie United Church celebrates 100th birthday By Blanche Deeves The 100th hirthda,y of the Holmesvillc United Church was celebrated last Sunday with a good attendance. Greeting the congregation, at the door were Mrs. Irene Cudmore and Mrs. Isobel Harris. Rev. and' Mrs. Oestreicher, Jonathon and'Jeffer•ey came to the service by horse and buggy driven by Bob French of Mitchell. The church was nicely decorated by the ladies of the 'church with fall flowers. oil lamps, fruits and vegetables, The entire choir was dressed in clothes of many years ago. Hugh Lobb led the congregation in the singing' of "Old Tyme Hymns". The Snell Family sang several modern hymns which were enjoyed by the congregation: Rec. Oestreicher. gave the announcements at which time he read a letter of congratulations on the Holmesviile Church's 1000 birthday . from St. James Middleton congregation, the only other Church in Goderich Township, and sent by Rev. Wm, Bennett. The Centennial hymn was sung by all. The words and music were written by Hugh Lobb and Verna Lobb. ,Murray Draper brought the organ to the church that was in the Ebenezer Church, when Mr. Irwin Tebbutt was organist. Mrs. Charotte Norman played the piano along with Mrs. Lobb on the electric organ. Rev. Douglas Ross gave the Sermon. The offering was received by Don Harris, Harold' Jantze, Alvin Betties, Gerry Ginn. An enjoyable time was enjoyed ' by all at the coffee ° hour which, followed the service. Miss Jean Blaney and Miss Fern Foster of Toronto spent a weekend .recently with Alvin and Barb Betties. Ken and Kay Harris had an enjoyable holiday in Orillia with George and Ann Wise.
