Things Take Time. Although we have modern typesetting equip- ment and' -a high speed press, it still takes time to .compose the ads, process the copy and combine them to produce the newspaper you are reading. • Do you really make the newspaper with scissors and pieces of paper?...Kind of. Almost everything you see in the newspaper is produced on photomechanical paper and all the ads and newscopy are cut out and pasted on sticky paper exactly as they appear on finished copies. • Why are some pictures so dark?...Our graphic camera "sees" only shades of block, white and g4ey. Coloured pictures reproduce very dark, usually black, with very little detail as you can see from the pictures of our staff we have used in this od. • When do you start work on next week's paper?...Before this week's paper is out. Planning begins weeks in advance. Writing and ad soles are ongoing. Production begins on Monday morning. • What else do you print besides the Signal•Star?.,.17 area weekly com- munity newspapers, The Huron Shopping News. advertising flyers, mon• thly publications-, special publications, 16 Anglican Church papers from across Canada with a circulation of over half a million, • .• How long does it take to actually print the Signal•Star?...The press runs about 20 minutes for each section. • How much is the press worth?...5400,000.00 to replace it today. • How much newsprint do you use?...25 tons (40 rolls) are delivered by tronsport truck every Thursday and are unfoaded with a special lift truck equipped with a rotating hydraulic clamp. The rolls ore stacked 4 high on their ends in the press room. • How do mistakes get in the paper?...We don't make mistakes.
