The weatherman is certainly co-operating so far with the warm fall days. Yes, we are open 7, officially till the end of October and if the weather stays like it has been we could be opened till November (like last year). So come out and play golf, enjoy the weather and practise up on some of those bad shots you made during the summer. The ladies held their closing dinner on Thursday past with the 1980 Executive being nominated. They are as follows: Past President, Mary Lynn , Telford; President, Pat Dockstader; Vice - President, Sue Gower; and Secretary -Treasurer, .. Karen Sturdy. The club captain will be Ellen Connelly, Handicap captain, Mary Lynn Telford; Food Chairman Evy McDonagh; Social Chairman, Edna Powell and Teams and Tour- nament, Shirley Baechler. Good luck girls as we are looking forward to an exciting and suc- cessful year. Della Bedard won low gross on ladies night. Second flight was won by Joyce Bolton and Marg Smith. Third flight winners were Thora McCabe, Rocky Whalen and Karen Sturdy. Fourth flight winners were Evy McDonagh, This year's club championships in the ladies' division at Sunset Golf Club were won by Shirley Baechler, club champion; Verna Kane, handicap champion; and Mary Lynne Telford and Sue Dawson takes topturkey .in Gower, two ball champions. Ken Dawson, Com- modore of the .Goderich Sailing Club sailed his , ATrITDOLL, to first place in last weekend's "TOM' TURKEY" regatta. Ken had just returned from a first place victory in a M.O.R.C. race in Bayfield the day before and wasn't about to let down for a local race. He even carried some extra crew, Bill Wark and his son Craig, and a newcomer to the Goderich Sailing Club, Phil 'Dobson from Lon- don, along with Steve Youngblut, his usual fore- deck man. The day started out calm and very hazy, with the wind clocking around from south, to west and finally increasing to 20 knots out of the north. None of the boats flew chutes until the fourth leg, and by that tirne Ken Dawson was way out in front. Murray McGill in the OBSESSION made a strong bid to take, over third place as the wind picked up, but was unable to overtake Ralph Smith in his smooth. sailing Tanzer, EL VIENTO. Overall finishes, after time corrections were GDCI volleyball teams winning The GDCI bdys' volleyball teams are enjoying winning seasons. The junior Vikings, coached by Ron Lane, have a record of 12 wins and six losses after their first three Huron= Perth Conference tournaments. The senior Vikings, under coach Bill Worsell, also have a 12-6 record after three tournaments. Next action for both teams will be next ' Tuesday in Mitchell where Mitchell, Norwell 'and Stratford Nor-, thWestein will provide the opposition. At the conclusion of the tour- nament series, the top six teams will meet in the, Huron -Perth cham- pionships in Mitchell on October 30. Team members of the junior Vikings are: Colin Alexander, Brian Johnston, Scott Bell, Ben Melick, Joe Morrissey, Tim Lassaline, Kevin Adams, Jim Fritzley, Bill Hall, Jim O'Neill, Dave More and Paul King. The senior Vikings have Mike Paquette, Steve Sager, Rob Willis, and Ray Stanton at the setting positions. Skaters have theme contest The board of directors for the Goderich Figure Skating Club held a meeting on Sept. 20 at the recreation office with 11 members present. It was decided at this meeting that we are going to have a "CAR- NIVAL" on March 8-80; but; in order for the club Sr.. All you have to do is suggest a theme and drop it into a suggestion box which will be situated in the lobby of the arena. Only one suggestion per skater. The winner will receive one-half of their mem- bership back. So skaters get to it and come up with some good ideas. This contest takes in Wed- nesday skaters (pre- schoolers, beginners, strokers, 'elementary, basic, power skaters) and ail skaters on Saturday. The club would like to welcome Nassine R•aherntulla to the board of directors. Mrs. Rahemtulla is our new We Must Make Room f chairman for the phone committee. Congratulations are in order to the following skaters who passed their tests on test day at Vanastra following summer school.
