"Pure Delight --Snack
Right".
For some of us snacks
make up a large part of
the food we eat in a day.
And so, the theme of
choosing snacks wisely is
vital. Food and nutrition
specialists with the
Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food
recommend that you
consider the sugar
content of snack foods
and also the calories and
nutrients they provide. •
Snack foods high in sugar
and fat provide un-
necessary calories which
can lead to overweight
problems. High -sugar
••
snack foods don't do your
teeth any favor either.
Some ideal choices for
snack foods are: milk,
plain yogurt, cheese,
plain muffins, plain
whole grain or enriched
bread, raw fruits and
vegetables, unsweetened
fruit and vegetable juices
and hard cooked eggs.
Watch for interesting
events planned to
promote Nutrition Week
in this area. And do
yourself a favor and
adopt the policy that it is
pure delight to snack
right!

keep those recipes

cook book which will be
ready some time "in
November. You can win
money for your gourmet
efforts.

After a long, hard
summer of cutting,
weeding and raking the
lawn, many peop10 are
anxious to forget about
lawn care until next year.
Neglecting -your lawn
now, however, may result
in even more work next
spring, warns Bob
Fleming, Qntario
Ministry of Agriculture
and Food horticulturist.
Lawns which grew
.slowly during the hot
summer are now growing
actively again with the
cool fallweather..
Regular mowing to 'p'
height of two inches is
required until the grass
stops growing.
"Fall is a good time to
control perennial -weeds
such as creeping Charlie,
plantain, dandelions, and
yarrow. Periodic ap-
plications of 2,4-D weed
killers from now until
freeze-up will reduce the
number of weeds next
spring,'' says, " Mr.

Neglecting to rake
fallen leaves can cause
serious damage to your
lawn. A layer of fallen
leaves will' smother the
