The Goderich Signal-Star, 1979-09-20, Page 140 Sports pa Sunset team wins low net in CLGA The team of Ellen Connelly, Mary Lynn Telford, and Shirley Baechler was the best net team of the C.L.G.A. district ladies tour- nament held at the Sunset on Wednesday. Eighty ladies par- ticipated in this event and eleven clubs were represented out of thirteen. Ann Lavis of Hanover won low gross for the field with an 82 and Lilias Deska from Saugeen won in a playoff with Maxine Martin from the Maitland to win the senior division with an 87. Sunset winners were Della Bedard and Shirley Baechler winning second low gross and net in finish flight. Mary Lynn Telford and Marg Smith in second flight. Thora McCabe won first low gross in third flight. Congratulations).. to the Sunset girls on an out- standing,showing. Have you ever heard of anyone getting an Albatross? Well Tony Bedard Sr. gave us the opportunity to make ourselves aware of this fine event on men's nite. Tony used his driver off of number eight and took out his five wood hoping to be close to the h -ole, but in it went. Tony made a .clouble eagle, on the hole. What a terrific shot Tony! With a shot like that Tony won low gross for men's nite. Low net winner on men's nite was Tim O'Brien. First flight winners were Al Pennie, Stan Telford, Bill House and Ralph Schefter. Second flight winners were Gary Chambers, Harold McPherson, Bill Thompson. Third flight was won by Harry Williams, Coley McDonagh, Ron Aliin and Cliff Kennedy. The rain stopped a few girls from finishing ladies nite but Verna, Kane, Anne Miller, Marg Smith, Grace Sale, Rocky Whalen, Chris Madill, Edna Powell and Bunny LeBlanc were prize winners. The final two -ball party for the season was played On Sunday with a beautiful fall day at its peak. Randy and Ann Miller were the low gross winners for the day. Shirley - and Paul Baechler 'were second and Tony and Della Bedard placed third. Special thanks to Joyce and George BoltQh who planned, organized and provided entertainment for all the eight parties. This Sat. Sept. 22, will be the closing party, which is to be held at the arena at 5:30 p.m. Please call the pro shop if you plan to attend. Dennis Martin of Clinton and Doug Cruickshank of Goderich willshare the coaching duties this year' for the hockey club, which opened their training camp last Monday night in the Clinton arena. The camp continues each weekday night from 9 to 11 pm until October 6. The' club also has several fund raising events , planned for this fall, with the highlight being the NHL Oldtimers, who are coming in on November 2 to play the Junior "C" graduates. There will also be a Hospitality Night on October 20 at the arena auditorium. Clinton team wins intertown The bowling season in Goderich has started to roll and on September 11 the first Men's Intertown competition was held at the Crown Lanes. The 'Clinton Hotel team seemed to be in -good form for the opening night as they won with 6. points. The Fleming Flyers finished close behind with 5 but the Ccown Lanes team were scoreless. ' _ In individual play, Kim Giles had the high single of 284 and the high five of 1299. For the Flyers the high five went to Bob Falconer with 1099. Randy Alton and Don Oetting tied for Novice B honors with 15 points, two better than second place Steve Boyce. Brad Armstrong finished the year with 18 points to win a close race for the Novice C cham- end title. Wilson's total for 1979 was' 40, 14 better than David McGregor's second place 26. Mike Doell's 12 points earned him a third place finish. Lee Watt is the 1979 Pee 'wee C champ with 18 points followed by Jim Dickens with 10 points and Shawn Talbot with 7. Dan Cousins was awarded the Enduro A year end trophy for an 18 point season while Ford won Enduro B with 39 points. Wayne Ryerson showed pionship. Paul Sowerby enough skill in the junior grabbed second spot with Bridge club scores John Donatis and John Wood combined for a point total of 691/z. to take first place in the North-. SOuth section of play at the September 18 meeting of the Goderich Bridge Club. There were seven. tables involved in a Mitchell game.
