President Mrs. Hazel McCreath opened the meeting. Please bring the sewing to the next meeting. The 65th annual W.I. Convention will be held in St. Marys onNov. 1 and 2, and an indoor gardening workshop, will be held in Clinton on Oct. 15 and 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Oct. 1 is the date set for the County Rally at Elimville and delegates are Mrs. Berneice Mcllwain and Mrs. Hazel McCreath. Mrs. Helen Lindsay introduced Mrs. Kathy Pryde of Family and Children's Services, who spoke and showed slides on "Child Abuse and Prevention of Same". There have been a lot of changes in the Child Welfare Act. In a number of cities ' "Parents Anonymous" helps parents to talk over their problems and learn better methods of coping with them. Mrs. Lindsay presented Mrs. Pryde with a gift and thanked her for her interesting talk on this ever present problem. The meeting concerned the Rights of the Child and opened with Mrs. Edith Tebbutt reading the scripture and Mrs. Isobel Har,ris • leading prayer and meditation. Mrs. Edna Jervis received the collection, and "Remember' the Children" was read by Mrs. Muriel Grigg, also The Boat People and The World has Narrowed. Mrs. Dorothy Whitely read "Remember", 4-H groups start new project Tiger Dunlop Group 1 will be starting its 4-H project, Needlepoint, Monday evening, Sep- tember 24 in Colborne Township Hall at 7 p.m. If anyone is interested, contact Ann Feagan at 529-7563 or Helen Brin- dley at 524-6430, or be at Colborne Township Hall next Monday night at 7 Tiger Dunlop Group 2 held its second meeting for the 4-H project, needlepoint, on •Wed- nesday, September' 12. The meeting opened with everyone joining in repeating the pledge. The roll call was then an- swered with all being present. The -girls discussed their covers. The name decided on was, "Granny's Treasure". Connie Willis is designing the cover. The meeting was then turned over to the leaders who showed the girls how much yarn to use. Two stitches were taught, which were the Gobelih and the Bargello. • ' The meeting closed with the 4-H Creed after which the girls enjoyed refreshments served by the leaders. SOCIAL NEWS The annual meeting. and -banquet of the South Western District and the. County Unit for the Canadian Cancer Society will be held at Pine Ridge Chalet, R.R. 2 Hensall, Monday, October 1. Special speaker will . be the Honorable Monique Begin, former Federal Minister of Health. Tickets are available through the Cancer Society and if interested, phone Les Pitblado at 524- 6608 by the end of the week. Before going to their respective Sun. school classes, the minister explained to the children, "The game we're going to play is :dis.covet the names of people in the Bible". After the worship service on Sunday morning the children went over to the school to play ball while some men carved the turkey and the church women prepared a delicious dinner with all the trimmings. The tables were filled and a few extra places had to be set. This was the Cen- tennial event for Sep- tember. The next event is the Anniversary Service planned for Oct. 7 when Rev. Doug Ross will be guest speaker. Personals Miss Shirley Norman of Kitchener spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Norman. Irene and Harry Cudmore drove their son and family to Ottawa and stayed on for a nice visit. Jean and Clarence Perdue havereturned after a week of travels visiting Old Fort Henry - Upper Canada Village - and a very enjoyable boat ride on the Miss Kingston up the St. Lawrence River, then on .. to Algonquin Park and a short visit with their daughter., Joyce and family at Barrie. The pee wee boys viab baseball team were treated to a party on last Thursday evening at the home of Bill Harris. Manager Daryl Abbott and Bill Harris bought and presented the boys 11 1 with their trophies. The wiener roast had to be held inside due to the rain, games were played by all present and everyone had a good time.
