How to install
adequate insulation
in your attic.
This is where your battle with the
rising cost of fuel will be won or lost,
This is the most important area in
the house for insulatioq because
heat naturally rises. And if you don't
have enough insulation, your heat
will rise through the ceiling and be
wasted in the attic.
Even if your house is brand new, you
may need more insulation. We
believe you need a minimum of 6"
of insulation in the attic. And 8"
would be better. Fortunately, the at-
tic is the easiest of all areas to in-
sulate.
FRICTION FIT
BATTS or POURING
INSULATION
Ifsome insulation is already in
place, including a vapour
barrier, a second vapour barrier
should not be added. Just add
pouring insulation or friction fit
- batts between the joists. In-
sulation should be kept 3" away
from recessed. Tight fixtures,
metal furnace flues and hot
water pipes. It should not block
eave vents-. The attic 'should be
well ventilated to remove heat
build-up . in summer and
damaging moisture in winter.
