Coming off a series' tying 18 inning thriller Sunday night the Com- pany came 0'61 g scoring 11 times on nine hits. Leading 6-1 after five innings the Company came up- with a five run burst that resulted in Company hurler- Stan Doherty getting an unexpected and needed rest. The Company held French off in the bottom of the sixth to hang on to the 10 run lead which meant, according to the league's mercy rule, the seventh inning was not played. Canada Company went right after the win sen- ding eight batters to the plate in the top of the first coming away with a four run edge.. Rob McDonald singled and scored on a triple by Glen Tigert. Tom O'Keefe rapped a double . and Bryan Bowman reached first on a fielder's choice. Both scored on a single by 13y Blanche Deeves Casey Wildgen before French ended the inning. French's only run came in the second inning when Ray Klages slammed a triple to lead off and scored on a sacrifice by Don McWhinney. Canad-a- Company -- added two .more runs in the .fifth when Wildgen and Terry Austin each hit three baggers. Austin scored on an error. The winning rally in the sixth inning started with a French error. Wildgen reached first on the mistake . and moved around on a single by Stan Doherty. Tom O'Brien loaded the bases with a second Cleaner error and Rob McDonald drilled a double to score three. Glen Tigert tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Donnelly. Doherty..was the wih.ner.. . giving up just four hits and fanning , two. Don McWhinney and Phil Turner shared the loss giving up nine hits. The fourth game of the series will be played Thursday night and the fifth, if necessary, will go Sunday at Agriculture Park. HolmesvilIe children baptized Holy Baptism was celebrated ate the Holmesville United Church on Sunday when Mr. and Mrs. Don Lock- wood presented their son, Sean Charles and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Scott presented their daughter Jamie Nicole for the ceremony. Rev. Oestricher an- • nounced that in t future, children will to part in a new ga �e called, Finding The Me In The Bible. Harold Jantzi and Don Harris received the of- fering and the theme of the sermon was The Kingdom of God and Children. During the , service Marty and Hugh Lobb sang a duet. In other church news, the London Conference of the United Church of. Canada has set upa fund to aid those who suffered from the recent tornado. The month of September has been designated as the time to be involved in this need and anyone wishing to help in the fund is to place their donation in an envelope, marked Tornado, and place it on the offering plate at church. if a receipt is wished include your name on the en- velope. At the end of the month, the money raised will be forwarded. On September 16 at 12:30 pm, the congregational dinner will be held after the 9:45 am church service and Sunday School. The entire congregation is invited to remain to attend this , centennial event and `While the ladies will prepare the meal after the service, each family is asked to bring salads, pies or tarts. There will be games and activities for the children and young' people.. The church's an- niversary service will be held on October 7 at 2 pm. Itwill take the form of an Old Tyme Service as a conclusion to the cen- tennial events. For the special service, Rev. Doug Toss, president of the London •Conference will be guest speaker. The church's cen- tennial booklet will go on sale at this time. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Ginn entertained at a family dinner on Sunday in honor of the baptism of their granddaughter, Jamie Nicole. Mr. and Mrs. Don Lockwood entertained at their home on Sunday with a smorgasbord lunch in honor of their son Sean Charles' baptism. Guests for lunch included Sean's great grand- mother, Mrs. Charles Lockwood of Clinton, Clarie, Debbie and Jerry Perdue of London, Sean's grandparents, Clarence and Jean Perdue and Edward and Blanche Deeves. It's reported that Holmesville got frost on Saturday night %which killed the tomatoes and - the vines. A reception will be held for Jim and Gwen (nee Pickett) Bell on Saturday September 22 at 9 pm at the Goderich Legion Hall with everyone welcome. Bridge club scores Mary Donnelly and Eleanor Erskine com- bined for a point total of 1011,2 to take top honors in the North-South section of play at the September 11 meeting of the Goderich Bridge Club. There were seven tables in play. Frank and Jim Don- nelly finished second with 88 points . and Joanne Duckworth and Lee Ryan were third with 871/2' points. Susan White and Bill Cochrane took first place in the East-West section with a point total of 101/z.
