Sailing race
set forSunday
BY D.R. BUNDY
Even though many of
the summer residents
have departed, and the
air is somewhat chillier,
there is still lots of good
sailing taking place off
the Goderich Harbour
these. weekends.
On Sunday, the
Goderich Sailing Club
began its "Chill -Blain"
series of races, with five
boats at the starting line.
The winds were ideal,
and the two Solings were
out for the first time in a
few weeks to show their
heels to the other slower,
boats.
Even though Ken
Dawson was away, Steve
Youngblut skippered the
Satin Doll through its
paces, and kept up with
Lynn Meyers and Bruce
Thomson in the Solings.
Ken Bauer was all
alone, but managed to
single -hand his craft with
little difficulty.
Paul Carroll and his
family were out for the
first time in their new, (at
least new to them) Abbott
26. Once Paul learns how
to use all those extra
sails, he may start to pull
away from the rest of
them!
After the time -
corrections were done,
the results were as
follows: first, Satin Doll
(Steve Youngblut);
second, Tiki (Lynn.
Meyers); third, Cuckoo
(Bruce Thomson);
Clairvoyant (Ken
Bauer).
Another race is planned
for next Sunday af-
ternoon, with the warning
horn to be at 1:30. We
invite any sailors to come
out and join in these fun
races.
Please put your name,
on the chalk board, and
indicate if you are willing
to take someone on as
crew, or,"if you are new to
sailing and racing, put
your name to indicate
that you would like to
crew for someone.
There are also many
G.S.C. members who are
experienced racers who
would be willing to sail on
your boat, and help you
with your first race:
Check the chalk board
before 12:30 on Sunday.
Don't forget, the
awards dinner is booked
for. Saturday, October 27
(the same day as the
keel -boat haul -out) so put
that date on your'
calendar.
