The Goderich Signal-Star, 1979-09-06, Page 26PAGE 8A--GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1079 •Distinguished speakers were guests of area Baha'i Community and Mrs. Jeanne Seddon, (second from right) 41 Too many live only for today BY PASTOR ALFRED FRY "He Must Reign" (1St. Corinthians. 15.25) generations ago most sections of The Christian Church accepted the doctrine of the„ Second Coming of The Lord, and were looking for His personal return as the great hope of The Church. Services were -held to stimulate interest in the subject, and•thousands of, Christian" people of all denominations testified to a quickening oftheir spiritual life in con- sequence. But one of the saddest features of these present days is that the organized churches have. almost entirely given up looking for His coming. Not only have they ceased to believe in The Lord's return as an ar- ticle of doctrine, but in some quarters they openly challenge its truth and hold it open to ridicule. 'The tragedy is that it is the professing church, not only the avowed infidel-. that is saying, in the words of (2nd Peter, 3-4) "Where is the promise of His coming? for since the father's fell asleep,. all things continue as they 'Were—Minthe creafiOrf. It is a sad fact that too many people have set their minds on the things of this life, trying to improve things down here, and all their • energies 'are bent on making this world a better place in which to. 'live; they have forgotten the injunction of the Apostle, to "set your affection on things above, not on things of the earth. (Col. 3-2.) Nowhere in the New Testament are Christians told to im- prove the world in which they live. In Scripture the world is spoken of as' being incurably evil, believers are reminded that they are saved out of the world and unto a future day of glory. One reason the organized Church has largely lost its hold upon the masses of to -day is that it has lost this vision of the eternal; .this vision was so characteristic. of The early Church. The Kingdom of God cannot and will not come on earth, until the Literal, Personal, and Physical return of The Lord takes place. "He Must Reign". There are millions of displaced persons wandering aimlessly, in the world, homeless, destitute and despairing, a legacy of fear , hatred, and suspicion remains. Violence, greed; lust, cruelty and crirne is rampant. (I am quoting some facts by "B.G. Wheatley" Of Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony.") I also am writing after many years of experience in the work.. of the Church. In writing to the Church,. Peter5, ' Peter says "You shall receivea crown of glory. What is this Glory? It is not only the Glory of Heaven, but the Glory of. The Millennial reign of Christ, which is to be unveiled at His Second Coming. When He shall appear we shall be like Him, (In Glory) for we shall see Him as He is. (1st. John. 3-2)'Thus' He must reign, if our salvation is to be consummated. Psalm 72. speaks of the reign of The King. "He shall have dominion from sea to sea, His enemies shall lick the dust, All kings shall fall down before Him. What then should be the attitude of the Christian Turn to page 12A • Goderich & District Big Brothers'. An occasional vacuuming of the coils behind or underneath the refrigerator can help it last longer and it won't use more electricity than it has to. Take the $1 ball test. Shut the door of your fridge on a dollar bill. If the bill pulls out easily cold air can flow out too, adding to your energy costs.
