(Photo by Cath Wooden) •:,Zkez BY CATH WOODEN I heard on the news that a number of families have set sail in search of.a deserted tropical island on which they plan to foster a new 'civilization. . Everybody likes to get away from it all once in a while, but this is ridiculous. No doubt these people" have read Swiss Family Robinson and watched every re -run of Gilligan's Island at least 17 times. Picture Fred,•Marge.and the kids, packing the boat for the trip. Marge p.uts the blender in a carton already jammed with tupperware. and dishwasher soap. Fred sets down his golf Clubs and calls his wife stupid. While. his parents ,go at it in the kitchen, 16 - year -old Percy carefully packs his stereo equipment for the trip. Little Willie, is. all set to' go with his skateboard in one hand and his ping pong paddle in the other. The whole family begins to call each other stupid and they each re- pack their belongings. O.K., this family and their neigh- bours have keen on Comfort Island for six•months now. • Fred comes in after a long day of fruit -picking and fishing. Old habits are hard to break and .he 'mechanically asks for the evening paper. • • This hacks Marge off. "Shut up!" "she screams. "Don't remind -me of the world out there. There's probably a fall sale - at Eaton's right now and I'm missing it!" "Aw honey," Fred whimpers. "I guess you'll have to make do with Meanwhile, Percy is having a rough time of it. He broke uli with, his girl friend. It wouldn't he so bad for Percy except that she's the only teenage girl on the island. Besides, his braces need to come off, •a factor the -family overlooked before setting sail. Little Willie is having a great life. He's taken to wearing no clothes, and spends mosts of his time in trees. He only grunts when spoken to. All in all, the colony ik.building quite a civilization. There's a bit of a sewage problem, but that'll he taken care of when high tides last year's bark until L figure ouL-rt-turn. George' -s -brother Floyd has managed to take over most of the island, but that'll be taken care of when Fred's brother Harvey lands that deal with George which will put Floyd right out of business. And Fred and --his family are' thinking of sailing to North America to get away from it all. how to skin a wild animal," "Well Helen three huts down has a lovely fall skin. Why don't you .ask George how•fle did it?" • "Because George is a jerk, that's why. I saw hirn eying one of my pineapple trees. He knows I'm in debt to his brother for three dozen fish."
