This' is a per- sonal way of life. We realize the •thought and effort that goes into these pieces and we love the one -of -a -kind things to live with that are unique, knowing the difference and special meaning of the individual piece of work. Handicrafts really make you and your home different, 'vibrant . and interesting. This brings us to the Christmas Country Fair which shows the hard work and talent of many artists in many fields. Mark your Calendar for Wednesday, October 17. and Saturday, October 20 at Saltford Valley Hall. This is the original Western Ontario arts and crafts show organized by a few Carlow area craftspeople. How they have advanced to include many outside their area artists and craftsmen is a story . of a great awakening for all of Martha Rathburn them. Many had never been in a larger than Art Mart Crafts show. Now the regular exhibits cover almost any craft you can name. Some of the special features this year are William Clawson's metal sculpture, glass and wild flower creations of the Sommersun Glass works of Dungannon, Philip Sommer and Paul Polzin, craftsmen, artists; Diane Veary with pottery and stoneware; and Jim Wallace of Sharp's Creek, Benmiller with plain and fancy "Iron Implements". Walter de 'Wolfe of Ripley, who has become quite well-known for his unique wooden toys and other novel pieces, will be there. There are por- celain reproductions of antique dolls by Pat Brown of Florence; macrame animals by Carol Innes of Brussels; rug hooking by Aline Jessome of Midland - a far bit; cake decorating by our nice little Judy Woodall; ink sketches, plaques and cards by Susan and Michael Scott; gifts and decorations - a Christmas Boutique -.by Maxine Pollock; pain- tings by Martha and other local artists as well as the Huron Tract Spinners and Weavers Guilds' beautiful work. A great many artists and craftspeople you have met before will also be waiting for you and your Christmas shopping list. Christmas? Well, the last few weeks of cold weather make me think that August was pushed aside and we are indeed headed for winter. Perish the thought. Check your Bulletin Board for coming events. Think about a craft. Night classes start in September at G.D.C.I. and there are many classes already in progress that you can take - check with the Recreation Office. There is bound to be Something you have thought you would like to do - if it isn't art or crafts, it may be in' the heavier crafts such as fixing furniture, doing antiques or just writing short stories. Whatever it is - get started - it's later than you think. Love, Martha. Backstage only August 26 Backstage, the new 'mini' musical by James Saar, author of Flicks, is being given its first, showing at the Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend. The single performance is scheduled for Sunday night, August 26 at 8 p.m. Tickets for the per- formance - are free, courtesy of The Colonial Hotel, Grand Bend. Reservations may be made by phoning the ticket office at 238-8451. The show is a glimpse of back : stage life with four actors playing in a second rate production of Hamlet and sharing a Donnellys a popular show Due to popular demand, The Death of the,- Donnellys, now running August 21 to September 1 at the Blyth Summer Festival, will be held over for one week only. There will be performances September 2 at 2 p.m., September 4, 5, 6, 7 at 8:30 p.m. and September 8 at 2 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the Blyth Memorial Hall.
