Few of us realize, with
the scramble of everyday
living, what we can do for
ourselves and the ex-
periences we have let
pass by. This' is a per-
sonal way of life. We
realize the •thought and
effort that goes into these
pieces and we love the
one -of -a -kind things to
live with that are unique,
knowing the difference
and special meaning of
the individual piece of
work. Handicrafts really
make you and your home
different, 'vibrant . and
interesting.
This brings us to the
Christmas Country Fair
which shows the hard
work and talent of many
artists in many fields.
Mark your Calendar for
Wednesday, October 17.
and Saturday, October 20
at Saltford Valley Hall.
This is the original
Western Ontario arts and
crafts show organized by
a few Carlow area
craftspeople. How they
have advanced to include
many outside their area
artists and craftsmen is a
story . of a great
awakening for all of

them. Many had never
been in a larger than Art
Mart Crafts show. Now
the regular exhibits cover
almost any craft you can
name.
Some of the special
features this year are
William Clawson's metal
sculpture, glass and wild
flower creations of the

Ripley, who has become
quite well-known for his
unique wooden toys and
other novel pieces, will be
there. There are por-
celain reproductions of
antique dolls by Pat
Brown of Florence;
macrame animals by
Carol Innes of Brussels;
rug hooking by Aline
Jessome of Midland - a

tings by Martha and
other local artists as well
as the Huron Tract
Spinners and Weavers
Guilds' beautiful work.
A great many artists
and craftspeople you
have met before will also
be waiting for you and
your Christmas shopping
list.
Christmas? Well, the
last few weeks of cold
weather make me think
that August was pushed
aside and we are indeed
headed for winter. Perish
the thought.
Check your Bulletin
Board for coming events.
Think about a craft.
Night classes start in
September at G.D.C.I.
and there are many
classes already in
progress that you can
take - check with the
Recreation Office. There
is bound to be Something
you have thought you
would like to do - if it isn't
art or crafts, it may be in'
the heavier crafts such as
fixing furniture, doing
antiques or just writing
short stories.
Whatever it is - get
started - it's later than
you think.
Love,
Martha.
