Henry came back in the sixth race to win with FAV, a three year old Duane Hanover - Adios Armada offspring for owner Wayne Horner of Brucefield. FAV paced the mile in 2:09 for his first lifetime win in as many starts. Clarence Young of Lucan also had back to back winners last Thursday. Young won with Lucan Boy, owned by Jack Gilmour and himself, in the third and took the fourth with Rollys Mark, a trotter owned by Jack and Andy Hai'dy'of Lucan. BUNDY Visiting yachtmen garnered top spots in all three cat,egories in last weekend's annual Champion Regatta here. A total of 30 large craft took part in the race, and came from Bayfield, Grand Bend, Port Huron and Sarnia to compete. Most of these had taken part in the Bayfield to Goderich Given Memorial race, which was helc' on Saturday. Snug Harbour, as. well as the new Maitland. Valley Marina, were filled to overflowing with 25, 30 and 35 foot racing sloops, with' names like Badminton club sets plans for season The executive of the Clinton and District Badminton Club 'met on August 16 to finalize plans for the 1979-80 season. As' in the past, the club will meet on Wednesday evenings in the high school gym. The club is open to everyone and three'special instruction nights will be held for newcomers, without charge. These three nights will be September 12, 19 and 26 from 8 to 11 p.m. Racquets will be supplied and members are asked to wear running shoes. On Wednesday, Sep- tember 12 the club will return to the same place from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. The students' 'club will start on Wednesday, October 3 with playing time from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The fees for this season will -be the same as last year - students $4, adult single $7, and $10 for ' married cduples. Special events of last year, such as interclub -tournaments or visits with other clubs, will be enjoyed again this year. The club had 64 members last year and hopes to have as many or more this year. Four local boats also competed, and although they were somewhat outclassed, they gave a creditable showing and, from all reports, had a great day of sailing: The weather was nearly ideal, with light to moderate North West. winds, and mainly clear skies. Just as the last boats were crossing 'the finish line, the fog rolled in but it did not hamper any of the racers. We understand a few of the boats returning to other ports ' had some dif- ficulties finding their way however. Bruce Sully, President of Champion Road Machinery Company, presented the prizes and trophies at . a brief ceremony Sunday af- ternoon. He also congratulated Paul Parsons, ., the R.egatta organizer, for the ex- cellent job done in organizing and running such a large event. The overall trophy winner, determined, by using a somewhat complicated PHRF formula, was Bob Jones from the Grand Bend Yacht Club, who sailed an excellent race in his 35 foot C and C, Sandpiper. Litt owns the eight year old of Perfect Wave -Gerry Aldon with Allan Weishar also of Teeswater. Only two nights of racing remain which means summer is almost over. Tonight's feature, a conditioned pace for a purse of $750, brings together a field of six. From the rail out they are Mike Meadow, Ima Jerry, Conray Kevin, Sam Herbert, Maud's Knight and Whispalong. In other news, 12,andy Fossil Flamboro last Sunday afternoon in a time of 1:58.4, a personal best for the five year old son of Newport Duke -Crimson Cape. The win was also the first in under two minutes for McLean, a native of Goderich. Randy is catch driving for regular driver Brian Hodgson who suffered a fractured wrist in a' loading mishap a week ago. Hanover Raceway will feature a Powder Puff Race on Saturday Sep- tember 1 with five ladies expected to participate.
