Mary Sledge, 20, of Riverview,Michigan, and Scott Rische, 1.7, of• Sheboygan, ,Wisconsin ore Ongoing Ambassadors for Christ, tihich are parish workers with the Lutheran church. The program involves youths ages 14 and up, and originated in Minnesota. It has ex- panded throughout the States, Hong Kong, the Philipines, and Germany. Saskatchewan has representatives and Ontario soon will have. Mary arrived in Goderich on .Tune .10 and Scott came two weeks ago. Mary has• been working primarily with Vacation Bible School at, Berea -By -The -Water Lutheran Church. She and Scott have begun a door-to-door survey to find out if and where people go to church. "Our main goal is to get people interested in at- tending church," says Scott. "We aren't trying to sell anything." Ongoing Ambassadors for Christ work on a valunteer basis, but the benefits are many. They get to travel extensively and are provided with room and board. Mary has been staying with Ken and Shirley Keller in Goderich, and 'Scott's hosts are the Glen Rittinger family. Jim Hayter has provided Mary with a car for the summer. Mary and Scott are commuting to Exeter's, Peace Lutheran Church for YBS there. The two young people's visit will end on August 24. CLAIR SAMS `Tis an interesting thought, the changes that a person makes from time to time in life. We never know when they N are coming, nor all they involve., but changes'are sure to come, as sure as the sun. We may as well expect them and welcome and embrace them as to fight and be uncomfortable with the variation. And thinking of changes, brings me to what I'd like to mention here. We, lived in the west some time ago. Living there, how were we to know we would be living on the Great Lakes today? What a difference. As pleasant as it may be, it was still a change for me. I thought of the irrigation out there, compared with the dependence on rainfall i SAVE ENERGY and Insulate U.F. Goderich 524-8821 here and immediately the thought came to me, it's much the same spiritually. There they enjoy a constant water supply that controls the crop growth and keeps a well watered, well rounded development from year to year. They aren't as dependent on the variations of weather to the extent the producers in this area are. Here the crop must wait for rain and sun to come when it will and suffer if it doesn't. Spiritually, that is the difference in the even, steady, ' well -modulated flow of the sanctified life in comparison' with -the sporatic, from blessing to blessing life of the believer who doesn't know the indwelt presence of the Holy Spirit. - Why, Paul said it this way in his writing to Thessalonica: "And the Lord make you to in- crease and abound in love one toward • another...to the end he may establish your hearts and un - blameable in holiness before God...'' That sounds to me as though he meant for us to be 'steady, -established, sound,. or sanctified personally. You see a little later in the same book Paul said "For this AL` GR N s..- M RESIDE SENR GE LODoEatcH 45 NELSON ST. Youwill find these passages in.I Thess. 3:4. But Paul wasn't the only writer who thought it important we have this well of water springing up in us. Peter said "But the God of all Grace who hath (called us into his eternal by Christ Jesus, after that he suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you." I tell you, it is a joy to know the constant un- dergirding strength of the Holy One lifting, strengthening, in SUPERIOR MEMORIALS ESTABLISHED OVER 50 YEARS Goderich Area Representative ROBERT McCALLUM 11 Cambria Road Goderich 524-7345 Clintons-Seaferth Area Representative MICHAEL FALCONER 153 High Street Clinton 482-9441 couraging, leading constantly. It seems to me every child of God would long to enjoy this establishing rather than the constant up and down experience. of a co'ntinual rededication, always waiting on a blessing rather than having the Blesser. It's the difference in irrigation and dry land farming. Seems; common sense would tell us it is better to enjoy a constant steady flow than to. en- dure the dry weak questings that are ex- perienced by so many. Scripture tells us that Christ suffered without the gate that he might sanctify the people. Jost that ought to be enough to make us expectant. Then we read that it is His will even your sanctification. That, it seems, would be enough to bring a person into the experience. • Finally, Paul told us again"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming ofour Lord Jesus Christ."
