Designer Bob Pearson sketches, the cast of The Death of the Donnellys in front of Goderich's Huron Historic Jail. The cas.€ spent time at the jail on Theatre Owl, Pussycat kfunny show BY CATH WOODEN The Owl and the Pussycat marks the Playhouse debut of next season's artistic director, Aileen Taylor -Smith. She did a commendable job with this latest production, which stars Gloria Gifford and Tim Henry. The -Owl and the Pussycat is a director's delight. So much can be done with it. The audience is sprinkled with funny one liners like, "I feel so guilty sleeping alone in a double bed when there are people in China sleeping on the ground," while on stage a. relationship evolves, and two personalities come to grips with themselves. The two personalities, F. Sherman and Doris W., played by Tim Henry and Gloria Gifford are the entire cast. Felix Sherman is an 'intellectual' and a frustrated writer who works in a book store. Enter Doris, a model and actress who works as a prostitute. After succumbing to his animalistic desires, Felix sets about to save Doris and ends up getting saved himself.- Gifford imself.-Gifford and Henry perform almost im- peccabley as the owl and the pussycat (which is which?). An obvious chemistry exist between the two. Area kids Cast in musical . The Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend winds up 'a most suc- cessful season with a family favorite, , The Sound of Music. Cast , in the roles of the children are seven local youngsters, Douglas Woodburn, Lisa Cain, Jeff Greenwood, Mary Margaret Murphy of Goderich, Jennifer McCrindle, Myvonney Godwin and Catherine Inculet. Tim Henry moves gracefully on stage; the words soft and sensitive come to mind. His voice is resonant yet quiet and calming. ' Gloria Gifford has a completely different stage presence. She stalks the stage in high heels and demands space. In a slight New York accent she belts out her lines in, perfect contrast to Henry. Movement and ex- pression seemed animated and extreme on opening night which was August 8. It could have been intentional on Taylor -Smith's part in order to portray extreme personalities.., However, subtlety was also ap- parent, especially in the characters' unconscious trading of gesture and habit. The Owl and the Pussycat is a play that should be seen for the, play itself, for the laughs, and for the two fine ac- tors_ Itcloses on August 18. ii DINNER SPECIAL 3 Pieces delicious Kentucky Fried Chicken Golden Brown French .Fries Creamy Cole Slaw Grecian Bread (Regular $2.45) SPECIAL I PRICE BIG SaL'IrlGs $195 TUESDAY ONLY Good r -74eTWINS COI. sand•r•' R Ipa entue yJied Colonel Sanders' I x iys and 1Iri', m 1kr d 94 ELGIN AVE... kICkNL.A CANA1AN COWNV hr'' er firkin ratxxl .
