and Owen Sound offices
can call on the boat and
its crews to do some work
for them and it is also
available for emergency

Evans says the creW of

Coast Guard if needed.

Evans says she'll go

Lochalsh news
Cemetery reveals
A visit to Lochalsh
cemetery one learns a bit
of the history of the first
.settlers in the area. A fine
piece of work has been
dote by the cemetery
board in restoring tomb
stones of over one hun-
dred years of age.
Common names to
Lochalsh such as
MacKenzie, MacDonald,
MacLennan, McCharles,
McFoggart, 4 McCallum,
MacKay, MacLean,*
Potcher, Black, John-
ston, and McMurchy are
all noticed on these stones
in the ..cemetery on the
north side of the road
(Hwy. 86).
Su.ch stones are -learned
by reading .inscriptions -
a family of four
McKinnon children were
buried D.e'c. 24, 1876..
My children .four, they
are no more:
They left us all one night
Their souls o true to
Jesus flew
Oh such a terrible night
This fine pieceof work
of polishing the stones.last R.D. Ross was laid to
and placing them in a
cement foundation was
done by Mr. G. Guay
under the direction of the
Lochalsh cemetery
board.
'The first burial in the
north side cemetery was
in 1850 and the last burial
in 1936. This being Mr. P.
R. MacKenzie, father of
the late Dan (Rice)
MacKenzie.
The first burial in the
south si8e cemetery °was
in 1853 and i Sunday

Through the ye -ars
many stories have been
told of the first settlers in
this community, and
many passers-by stop to
read the records and
remember. These two
cemeteries • are main-
tained by one board of
trustees, who do a fine job
in memory of the early
settlers.
Sympathy is extended
to the Ross families in the
passing of R.D. as he was
familiarly known.
