Last Friday Green and Parent won a game by default over French who were unable to field a team but they came by their second win honestly, Sunday with a 7- 3 victory over Lakeport. The games closed out the season for G and P and they finished with a record of seven wins against 15 losses for fifth place in the Maitland Division. The Thunderbirds struck for three runs in the first inning and scored two in both the fourth and fifth innings, all on eight'hits, in the 7-3 romp over Lakeport. J.im Martin led the eight hit attack with two hits in three trips to the plate. He doubled in the first to drive in two runs, singled in a run in the fifth and scored two runs. Dan Duncan chipped in with a double. Martin was also im- pressive on the mound stopping Lakeport on two hits, while allowing three runs and striking out seven batters. Lakeport scored two runs in the fourth inning on a walk and two errors and added a single in the sixth on an 'error and a single by Wayne Draper. Tirn McLean had the other Lakeport hit. Goderich Bridge club scores Eleanor ' Erskine and Mary Donnelly combined for a point total of 102 to win the North-South section of play at the August 14 meeting of the Goderich Bridge Club. There were eight tables in play. Evelyn Galbraith and Dawna Sproule were second with 831/2 points and were followed by Judy Thorup and Carol Williams with 78 points and Cathy McDonald and Father Garvey- with 77 points. Joanne Duckworth and Lee Ryan topped the East-West section with 861/2 points and Kay Duncan and Nuala Conlon were second with 781/2 points. The teams of Bill Duncan and Joe Martin and Mary Lapaine and Jean Papernick tied for third with 72 points'. Mary Donnelly and Eleanor Erskine com- bined for a point total of 128 to take first place in the North-South division at the August 7 meeting of the Goderich Bridge Club. There were nine tables in play. Frank Donnelly and A. Weerasooriya were second with 127 points and were followed by Bill Duncan and Joe Martin with 1211/2 points and Audrey Tobin and Tom Eadie --with 117 -1/2 -points: Visitors, Judy Thorup and Carol, Williams topped the East-West division with . 134 points. while Marg and Bill Sutherland were second with 124 points. Susan White and Ball Cochrane finished that -°d with 1211/2 points and Joanne Duckworth and Lee Ryan were fourth with 11.5points.. Bantams split playoff games with Clinton In a league game last Tuesday, the Bluewater Internationals edged out the Clinton Bantams by a score of 3 - 2. Clinton jumped into the lead with two runs in the first inning and Goderich battled their way back in the seventh to score three runs. Bill Wall had two hits and Rick Stahl, David Gallow, Mike Chisholm and Denis Keir had one each. Runs were scored by Stahl, Gallow and Chisholm. Dennis Kerr went the- distance for the Internationals. On Saturday.. afternoon the Bantams went to Clinton and were defeated by a score of 10 - 8. Atter three innings of play the score was tied 4 - 4. Then Clinton went in the, lead and Goderich just couldn't keep up. Denis Kerr led the Internationals with three hits in three times at bat. Kevin Adams, Scott MacDonald, Jeff Denom.me and Gary Abbott all _had two hits apiece and one each went to Bill Hall and Mike Chisholm. MacDonald scored two runs for Goderich with one apiece going to Adams, Ha -11, Kerr, Chisholm, De,pomme and Abbott. Kevin Adams and Denis Kerr shared the duties on the mound. The Internationals will play in Listowel Tuesday night: 'Just like olives in a jar, once you get the first hole -in -one, the others come relatively easily. Pat Jewell is the first lady golfer at Maitland to ever get a hole -in -one, and the first golfer to ace the 140 yard first hole. She used her trusty Number 5 iron to make this record. Congratulations, Pat! Not to be outdone by the ladies, Rob Huff came up with the same classy shot later that week, using a nine iron. Hats off to you too, Rob. Thirty-one ladies (including Pat) turned out on ladies' night and first flight winners were Maxine. Martin, Hazel. Beaver and Sue White. Pat Jewell, Bud Elliott, Verna Jackson and Janet Gem mill were second flight . winners. Third flight prizes went to Marg Evans,,, Doreta Jackson and Erla Stewart. Martina Schneiker took fourth flight prize and Kathy Kelly won the Hidden Hole. un Men's night last Thursday, we had six winners: Ken Hunter, Rick Rawson, Rick Leddy, Tom Jasper, John Schneiker and Pete MacEwan. All the matches are being played on schedule 'and we are corning down to the wire now. Air ", Canada Couples' Tournament held last Saturday, saw 17 couples entered and ,,the,, big winners were Paul Johnson and Vern Frith. Great golfing, you two! Paul and Vern now ad - Greer wins tourney Congratulations to Bob Greer of the Sunset on winning a four-way, sudden -death playoff to win the Listowel Men's Tournament on Saturday. Bob shot a two -over -par 74. He has been playing some great golf this year and has been second and third in other tour-, naments throughout the season. Men's Interclub will be held on Sunday, Aug. 19th at 1 p.m. This entry has been filled already, so come and watch, as there will be some avid golfers playing. Dave Bedour and Gerry Mero won low gross and low net on Men's Nite. First flight winners were Brian Reeves, Al Pennie and Bob Greer. Secuou Lltgiit was won by Bill Thom- pson, Ralph Sheftner and Bill Yungblut. Gary Chambers, Harry Williams and Cliff Kennedy won third flight. Della Bedard won low gross and the longest drive for the nite. Shirley Baechler won low net and closest to the pin. Second flight was won by Marg Smith and a tie for net vance to the next level in Toronto -the first week in September, where they will vie with all the other club winners from across Canada for the Grand Prix. These couples who did not enter this , com- petition, • or those who went home early, missed all the fun and games that went on afterwards. John and Verna'Kaii'e were the bridesmaids in the of- ficial competition, but Johan at'- least covered himself with glory (or is that gore?) in the unof- ficial tournament af- terwards. Sailing Club dinner is being held on Saturday, . August 18; so be sure you have your names in all you sailing types. Junior Invitational upcoming,. Wednesday, August 22. Randy Ford finished ahead of Randy McGregor and Heath Gurr in. the peewee A division and also took top spot in Enduro B. Scott Wilson was first across the finish line in the peewee B class with Frank Kovacs, second, and David McGregor, third. Jim Dickens took the Peewee C division. Randy Ford was the top driver in House League Motocross action at Hully Gully, winning two of 11 events. Ford was taps in the Peewee A class and was also first in the Enduro B class. Frank Kovacs won the Peewee B division while Lee Watt was first`' in Peewee C. Wayne Ryerson finished ahead of Chuck Collins and John John- ston in the Junior A class while Paul Van Oss won kthe Junior B category. Steve Boyce was the top Junior C rider. Rick Carman took the Novice A title ahead, of Rob and John Maaskant while Dave Errington topped the Novice B division.
