Kintore Lady, owned by Ray and Dorothy Davis of Thamesford, paced the mile in 2:0.6 over a track listed as sloppy, Fossil Ridge, owned and driven by 13rian Hodgson of Lon- don, finished second two ,; lengths back while Southgate Pride ended up third for owners Ken and JoanBryantBryant Of Dor- ohester and • driver Bob Taylor. Derby's Gent, the early pacesetter faded to fourth after cutting fractions of 30:3; 1:03.3 and 1:35.2. Gurkha, Samuel Seelster and As A Rule N rounded out the order of finish. Samuel Seelster found the footing not to his liking along the rail and broke leaving. George and Gary Feagan presented a blanket to the winner who also collected $1400 of the purse and a service to Title Holder for one of Davis' mares. The win gave Lakpeort the fourth and final berth among Industrial teams in the Industrial League's Labor Day Tournament. After 18 season games the teams were tied for the final slot and played a special game Sunday to, decide the last .Goderich entry. Lakeport took a one - run lead in the second inning with Larry McCabe scoring. On the tennis scene, Jim Costello dominated the boys under 18 singles draw, defeating another Godetlich competitor, Neil Sager in the final. Ma r -g -.,.Conlon.. won- -' a surprisingly tough ladies' competition, defeating excellent players from Hanover and Wingham in the semi-final and final to win the gold medal. Barb Conlon received the bronze medal after winning the consolation championship. On ; Sunday,_._ -a large number of Goderich tennis players competed for medals in double competitions. In ladies' doubles competition Marg and Barb Conlon lost a close first round match 7-5 to the eventual champions -from Port Elgin. They went on_,to win the consolation championship and 'the bronze medals. Lucy Turcotte and Ann Marie Murphy won their first match and then lost to the Port Elgin champions 6-3 in the semi-finals. The mixed doubles competition was a repeat of the Port Elgin tour- nament with Bob Dick .ra.d Marg. Canl-en defeating Jim Costello and Lori Hassell 6-4, 0-6, 6-1 in a tough battle. The gold and silver medals . were awarded after the match. Marg Hill and Neil Sager also competed in the mixed doubles competition. In men's doubles competition, Neil Sager and Jim Costello lost in the "semi-finals to a Kincardine team. Paul Brown and Bob Dick lost a pro set, after an ex- citing tie breaker, 8-7 to the eventual defending. champions from Owen Sound, 1 Chris Edwards and Jim Van Wyck. Plumbers chase lastplayoffspot The Goderich Little Plumbers had their hopes of reaching the final playoff spot in the Mid- western Ontario Ladies Fastball League dimmed after a tough 11-9 loss to Waterford in 13 innings here, Friday. The Little Plumbers must win their final league game against Moorefield, Thursday to grab eighth position in the 10 -team league and the final playoff spot. Ln the only game between the teams in Goderich,June Moorefield won 8-5. In the game against W'a'terford, Goderich scored p single run in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings but'- ;the visitors countered with two runs in the top of the 13th inning to win 11-9 Goderich held the lead early in the game racking up a 7-4 lead after four innings but Waterford chipped away at the lead and with two runs in the 22, �ntiacs wrap up Division The McGee Pontiacs- wrapped up the Dunlop Division pennant winning two, games in, Industrial League play last week. On Sunday the Pontiacs dumped Little Bowl 4-0 behind the two -hit pit- ching of Rick Sowerby and -Monday they ham- mered Gords Sports 12-1 in a five inning game. The victories com- pleted the schedule for McGees and they took first—place—with a record of 14 wins, six losses and two tics for 30 points. Graham Electric finished five points behind in second place. The Pontiacs pasted Little Bowl pitcher, John Crawford for nine hits in the game Sunday, five of them for extra bases. John Phillips scored the first run in the third inning as he singled and scooted home on Clare harmon's triple. Phillips scored again in the fifth, nailing a one -out double and scoring on Harry Kerr's single. Doubles by Doug Spitzig and Ron Sowerby produced a ?tin in the sixth and Pu1 Kelly added the final run with a solo homer in the seventh. Harmon and Phillips led the Pontiac nine -hit attack with two hits each. Little bowl managed just two hits off Rick Sowerby, a fourth inning single by Rob Snell and a sixth inning double by Jim Crawford. On Monday,': McGees put together seven hits and.' four Gord errors to score 12 runs in a five inning romp. Kelly led the assault with a double and single in two at bats. In the first round of the Blue Jayswin two- to climb into tie for first The Goderich BlueJays won two games in WOAA midget baseball play last week, defeating, Crediton, 10-5, in Crediton Wednesday, and. edging Listowel, 6-5, here Sunday. The victories leave the Jays with a record of 10 wins, one tie and three losses in league play and put them in a virtual .deadlock at the top of the WOAA southern group standing with Listowel. The Jays had little trouble with Crediton 'as they swept their four game season series with that team with their win Wednesday. The Jays got 10 hits off Nick Nedza, the losing pitcher for Crediton.
