The proceeds-. from the band concert in Harbor Park this Sunday are to go to Ernie who- is out of action because of a broken leg. Ernie's break isn't the usual ''over -it -in -six - weeks" type of injury. It will be October before he's out of the cast and then he will have to go for physiotherapy sessions on a regular basis. In the meantime, Ernie has lost the revenue from his summer job. There's little doubt that will cramp Ernie's style just •a little at the University .of Western Ontario where .he'll be studying law this fall. The Laketown Band members put it this way. Ernie has helped the Goderich•Laketown Band and the community. on many, many occasions. Now the Laketown Band would like to help Ernie. The band -members are asking that if you are Linable to attend the Sunday evening concert and would like to con- tribute, you could send your donation to Irla Stewart, 196 Warren Street; Dona Baker, 131 West Street; or Bonnie Dunn, 66 Colborne Street. Best of luok Ernie. It sure is nice to knqw you have some good friends to help out. +++ ROBERT HAYS Robert Charles Hays, son of the, late R.C. and Ethel Hays, and son-in- law of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bosnell of Goderich, was called to the Bar on May 9, 1979, at Convocation ceremonies in Osgoode Hall, Toronto. +++ The word from Port Albert this week is that the Anglican Church Women of Christ Church held a very successful bazaar last Saturday. The Port Albert bazaar is one of the area's finest for a small congregation, and the ladies are always happy for the support they receive from donors and from buyers. +++ David Glousher of RR 4 Goderich will be bar- becuing in style this summer. He was the MacKay Hall to be site winner of the Goderich Kinsmen Club's draw for a gas barbecue. The draw was made during the Kin carnival on The Square earlier in July. +++ And speaking about draws, the Clinton Lions Club want to notify Signal -Star readers that Mrs. June Harkes of Listowel.was the Winner of the camper van which was drawn for' recently. In the letter from the Lions. in • The Hub of Huron County, it was clearly stated that many people in Goderich helped the Clinton Lions to a 'successful conclusion for their draw. They were particularly grateful for the support of the Sun - coast 'Marl merchants and . the Goderich Lions Club. The Goderich Raceway, even came in for a nice share of the® plaudits when the Clinton Lions noted they were allowed to sell tickets at the July 19 race meet in Goderich. "While the activity was successful, the big bonus was the goodwill generated as the result of the excellent treatment we received from all the Goderich citizens and more specifically our fellow Lions," wrote L.H.Theedom of the ClintonLions Club. That kind of inter -town co-operation warms the heart and shotld be an example for many others to follow. +++ With the grape season coming into full swing soon and the price of imported and domestic wine going up . in the liquor stores, it is possible a good many people will be thinking ar its... Tid Bits... Tid Bits... about making wine at home. Interestingly enough, making wine doesn't have to take all that much skill. There are lots of good books available in. the books stores and at the library for folks who want to catch the fruit of the vine at its peak. All this reminds me of a home I visited about 20 years ago, long ' before win.e making became a fad, where the host and hostess enjoyed touring guests through their wine cellar. In that dark space .was rows and rows' of wine ... all kinds, all vintages, all homemade. If there was space, I'd tell you about the wine• making efforts of my husband, Ken. But that's another story .... for another time. +++ Forty-three nursing program graduates at the Stratford Campus of Conestoga College were honored at a black band and pinning ceremony at St. Joseph's Church in •Stratford last Sunday.
