ROYAL On Sunday, July 15, the congregation of Knox .Church, Goderich, honoured its Church Secretary of 31 years, • Mrs. Margaret Govier. Mrs. Govier had completed 31 years in the congregational responsibility and retired on June 30. Speaking on behalf of the Congregation, the Reverend G.L. Royal, Minister, and Gordon J. McManus-, Clerk of Session, made strong mention of the great contribution Mrs. Govier had made over so many .years to the work ' and progress of the pastorate. Mrs. Govier had come to the Chure'h Office in 1948 and continued throughout the years as an honest, happy, co- operative; supportive and sincere worker. It was during the ministry of The Reverend Robert G. MacMillan, former Minister at Knox, that Mrs. Govier began the long years of service to the congregation. A letter of appreciation was read by Mr. McManus and the letter was signed by himself, the Minister, and the Chairman of the Board, Mrs. Margaret Govier was presented with a color television set on Monday, July 15, by members of Knox Church for her 31 years of service as church secretary. (photo by Cath Wooden) Colborne's Hugh Hill is dead at age 94 Hugh .Hill of 184 Picton Street East, Goderich died in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Saturday, July 14 at the age of -94. He was born in Colborne Township on December 11, 1884 to Harriett Snell and William Hill. He lived and farmed in Colborne Township until moving to Goderich upon his retirement in 1955. , On June 6, 1906 he married' Sarah (Tena) Bean at The Homestead, Lot 2, Concession 8, West Division, Colborne Township. She predeceased him on August 8, 1971. The late Mr. Hill was a member of Morningstar Lodge no. 309, A.F. and A.M., Carlow and Past District Deputy Grand Master , of South Huron District. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by one brother, William. A funeral service was 'held at Stiles Funeral Horne in Goderich on Tuesday, July 17 at2 p.m. The Reverend Dr. R. Gordon Hazlewood of Brussels officiated. Pallbearers were Hugh. and Gerald Feagan, Robert and Bruce Baechler, and John and Greg Hazlitt. Flower hearers were Mark and, Scott Ker-, nighan, Peter and Paul Feagan, Roxanne 'Ker- nighan, Louise Baechler and Paula Feagan. Interment was in Colborne Cemetery. Morningstar Lodge no. 309, A.F. Th -e Treasurer of the Church, Mr. Keith Stothers, presented Mrs. Govier with a well-filled purse. Mrs. Govier thanked the congregation for the many signs of affection over the years. On Monday morning of this week a beautiful coloured television set was delivered to Mrs. Govier's home by' a delegation of office - bearers, including Gordon McManus, Jean Knight, Donald Edward, Keith Stothers and the Minister. In her retirement Mrs. Govier was wished happiness, health and honor. Sherwood reunion Elect co -presidents for 1980 BY MRS. 'DAN McINNES The eighteenth annual reunion of the descen- dants of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. G. Sherwood was held at the Women's Institute Hall, Belgrave on Sunday, July 15 with a good attendance. Grace was sung after which everyone enjoyed a bountiful noon lunch. This was followed by a short business period. Myrtle Johnstone had a display of family pic- tures, clippings and in- formation she has collected through the years. This proved most interesting. Myrtle gave' a short talk on the Sherwood family history which she is compiling. A moment's silence was observed in memory of those who are no longer with us. A sing song of old favourites was enjoyed. Games` and contests were ' in the charge of Helen ' and Dianne 'Thornton. Prizes were awarded to Nicole McKenzie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Murray McKenzie, for the youngest present; to Mrs. Marie Morrison for the eldest; guessing the number of buttons in a jar, Kenneth Hutchison; the person up the earliest that morning, Mrs. Dan McInnes; birthday closest to the date of the picnic, Mrs. Gordon Johnstone. Races for the juniors were won by Laura McKenzie, Karen Mcln-nes and Martin McKenzie. Senior girls winning were Mae Hutchison, Dianne and Shirley Thornton. Senior boys winning were Murray Thornton, Dale McInnes and Donald Thornton tied, Bob McInnes. Prizes for other games were: throwing the frisbee, boys, Kenneth .Hutchison, Murray Thornton, Bob McInnes and Donald Thornton; throwing the frisbee, girls, Shirley Thornton, Nancy McInnes, Dianne Thornton; penny relay, Donald Thornton's team; pie .te relay, Dale McInnes' eam; kick the slipper, la les, •ianne Thornton, Nancy McInnes, Mrs. John Thornton; kick the shoe, men, Dale McInnes, Bob McInnes, Kenneth Hutchison. The games finished with a gum scramble. Myrtle Johnstone and Mrs. Dan McInnes were re-elected as president and secretary -treasurer respectively. Next year's lunch committee is Mrs. Wm. McInnes and Mrs. John Thornton; sports committee, Bob and Dale McInnes; programme committee, Mrs. Dan McInnes and Nancy McInnes.
