The 40th Annual
Reunion of the Smillie -
Elder clan was held at
Seaforth Lions Park on
Saturday, July 7 with an
excellent attendance
under sunny skies.
President, Mr, Larry
Elder, welcomed all and
carried out his duties in
fine style.
Secretary -Treasurer
Ken Elder of Ottawa
brought everyone up to
date on interesting items
of the previous year, and
the new slate of officers
was elected Honorary
President -Dr. Jennie,
Smillie Robertson,
Ellen
McEwen
dies
At South Huron
Hospital, Exeter, on
Thursday, July 12, 1979,
Mrs: Ellen (Peck).
:McEwen passed away in
her 88th year. She was the
wife of the late Frederick
William McEwen.
One daughter, Mrs. R.
W. (Doris) Nicholls,
Thornhill, survives, as
does a sister, Mrs.
Margaret Schnell,
Detroit, and a sister-in-
law, Mrs: Alma P-e-ck;-RR
3, Bayfield. Five brothers
and four sisters
predeceased her.
The funeral service and
committal was held at the
Westlake Funeral Home,
Zurich, on Saturday, July
14th. Interment was in
Bayfield cemetery,

visited and reminisced.
Prizes were awarded to
,the winners, same of
whom were Andrew
Howe of Niagara Falls,
Jennifer Steers, Jeff
Gemmell, Sandra Peck,
Eric Elder of Ottawa,
Hannah Geiger, Michelle
Howe, Scott Kirton, and
Nancy Scafe.
The judging of the
coloring contest of a

section of Seaforth's
Main Street, done

previous to the reunion,
was held, divided into
junior, intermediate and
•
senior groups. The judges
appointed. were Mrs.
Jean Statham of
Kingsville, Dr. Ivan
Smillie of Kamloops, and
Mrs. Donna Draper of
London. Winners were
Ajana McBride of
Burlington, . Jeff Gem-
mell, and Grace Peck.
The youngest member
of the clan present was
little Jennifer Steers of
London.
An auction was held of
crafts and treasures
donated by members of
the clan with Mr. James
Statham of St. Clair
Shores, Michigan, as
auctioneer. The auction
was so successful that
some of the clan literally
stole such items as
ceramics, oil paintings,
and a rather snappy wig.
A letter of greeting was
signed by all present and
sent to the Honorary
President, Dr. Jennie
Robertson who is 102
years of age and resides
at Bayview Villa,
Toronto.
Among those coming
the farthest distances
were Helen and Fred
Howe of Tucson, Arizona,
and Dr. Ivan Smillie of
Kamloops, B.C., a
medical doctor "who
practised in Hensall for
ten years, many years
ago. He - brought
greetings' and good
wishes for the future, and

Hackett family
reunion held
The 31st Hackett Reunion
was held at Ashfield Park on
Sunday, July'8, 1979 with 57
in attendance. A bountiful
barbecue dinner was enjoyed
by all.
Jim Bradley welcomed all
present and 'we repeated the
Lord's Prayer in unison.
Three, lucky spot prizes
were won by Cliff Hackett,
Heather Lindsay and Joan
Hackett.
The minutes were read
and .a vote of thanks was ex-
tended to Jim Drennan for
bringing and looking after
the barbecue. The 1980
picnic will be held at the
same place on the second
Sunday in July with a
barbecue.
The same executive will
carry on for ;another year.

tree will be available later
this year.
The young people had a
good ball game and a swim
on just a perfect summer
day, and the rest had a good
visit with their 'Hackett
Family'.
