Saturday and ear ed the right to advance in the LegiOn playoffs. Clinton
defeated Exeter in their first game of the four -team, rouhd robin series and
won the champion •hip with a 1.5-2 victory over Listowel in the final game.

Saturday.
The victory was the
Second of the tournament
for Clinton and gave them

was just what organizers

The field for the run
.uwel]ed Saturday mor-
ning from the 63 runners
that rod to 121
that toOk off up West
Street when mayor Harry
nYurmeU fired the starting
pistol.
The field ranged from
those that take their
running seriously to those
that take the occasional
jog and entered the
Goderich Classic for the
fun oyit.
Brad Blain of Waterloo
wasted little time
covering the 10.2
kilometre course that
wound through Goderich.
Bluio, who runs with the
Waterloo County
Amateur Athletic
Association, ignored
stifling humidity and O0
degree ' temperatures
setting a torrid five mile
an hour pace cro
finish line in 31 minutes
eight seconds.
Ken Inglis of Kin-
cardine was hot on
EUabn'o heels finishing the
race 20 seconds later to
grab second spot. Peter
McKenney of Londou,
finished third in 31
minutes 55 seconds.
Janet Dick of London
was the first woman
across the - finish liner
completing the course in
34 minutes 44 seconds.
Linda Finley of London
was second ~bruongs.t
women runners with a
time of 41 minutes 55
secondsand Angela Venn
was third with a time of
42 minutes 28 seconds.
The Goderich
recreation ' department
orgoniczed the run and rec
director Jim Moore and
program co-ordinator.
Jane Netzke were very
pleased with the entries.
Both-wei-e confident more
than the 63 runners pre-
registered would show up
but had s'et a goal of 180'
runners. In the hour -
before starting time 58
-runners descended on the
registration desk to fill
out the field.
Most of the runners
were impressed with the
organization of the :race.
The most common
criticism was that not
enough people along the
race route offered run-
ners some respite from
•
the heat. Some thoughtful
home owners took garden
hosesto the street to
apr"Y�cool water on the
runners as theypassed
but those cooling points
were few and far bctwech

Carol Kane. She is
spending her summer at
Port Albert and hails
from Arlington, Texas.
Despite injuring a knee
early in the race Kane
