Betty's lucky number was 348. Proceeds from the draw p will go to veterans' welfare. +++ Glen Gardiner of Toronto (who also has a cottage at Port Albert) _was the' winner of a redwood picnic table and benches in a draw held by the Volunteer Association of the Bluewater Centre at their second annual Antique. Show and Sale last Friday and Saturday. All money raised from the draw, the show and the sale of refreshments .at the show will go• towards the purchase of camp equipment •for residents of -the Centre.. 'Organizers•of the show and sale were pleased with its success and Mr. Gardiner was pleased to pointment was July 3. Mr. Hill was born in Toronto. He started .with the registry system in Stratford and then won a competition for land registrar's position in Glengarry County (Alexandria). In 1976 he became land registrar in Victoria County (Lind- say). Mr. Hill is married with _t_w.ct children. He moved, his wife and family to Goderich from Lindsay on June 30. He says he likes Goderich very, very --much. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Hill, are retired andliving in Meneset Park. • +++ The U.S. Navy Sea Cadet training ship, NSCC YP 587, will visit Goderich harbor this Saturday. It will arrive at 2 p.m. and will be open to the public' from 4 to •5: 30 p.m. and again from 7:30 to 9 p.m., There are 22 cadets, aged 14 to 17, on board this ship. Eric Stern is. one of these cadets. His parents are summering at their cottage in Port Albert and will be giving a private dinner p'arty for those on board the ship on Saturday evening. • The ship was built in -1942 and was used for patrolling harbors on the •East Coast. After the war, until 1974, it Was used for navy training. If all goes well, she will continue at the school until Grade 12 and then if she is good enough, she may join a ballet com- pany. +++ - The third -a.nnual and Nostalgia Festival is being,held in Wingham on July 28 and 29. Once again film buffs and collectors will have the opportunity to view classic and rare films as well as browse through a dealers' room displaying many items for sale such as films, posters, comics, records and nostalgic memorabilia. The Festival is open from 10 a.m. to midnight on. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 8p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $3 per day or $5 for both days. The film that started the' sound revolution, "The Jazz Singer", starring Al Jolson will get one of its first Canadian showings in over 30 years at the Festival. Also showing will be "Son of Sheik", Valentino's. last film; "Wings", the first academy award winning film; ''Gullivers Travels", the:animated-- feature classic; and "The Comic" starring Dick Van Dyke. Just curious. + + Bill and Roberta Proctor And daughter 'Susan of Tees, Alberta were in Goderich from July 1 to 15. While here, they stayed with Bill's mother nd father, Elsie and Alvin Proctor of 192 Britannia Road and visited with other family mernbers and friends. On Sunday, July 8 the Proctors attended a family picnic held.at the home of Chuck 'and Jean Kellestine of Colborne Township. • +++ Goderich has received a grant of $40,000 under the Ontario Home Renewal Program (OHRP). OHRP provides per capita grants to Ontario municipalities to lend money to homeowner - occupants to repair their houses to acceptable municipal standards. The objective of the program is to correct ,faulty structural and sanitary conditions and tokupgrade plumbing, heating, 'in- sulation and electrical Systems: of owner - occupied homes. Loans of up to $7,500 may be given to eligible owner -occupants to bring -- their homes up to the standards adopted by their municipality. A portion of a loan can be forgiven depending upon the income of the recipient. Interest rates vary from zero to eight per cent, again depending on income. OHRP is '" directly 'oriented to low' and moderate income homeowners with a maximum annual income of $12,500. + + + Robert E.
