GRADUATION
CEREMONIES
Colborne Central
School Graduation and
Awards Night is always
something special.
One reason is because,
for the pupils of Grade 8,
it climaxes their last year
in public school, itis their
graduation and in all
probability when the next
school term commences
in September they will be
enrolling in high school to
start a new experience.
The other reason for the
popularity of this night is
that not only do thespupils
in Grade8 receive special
recognition but students
are chosen from Grade -I-
8 who have excelled in
various subjects and for
other special recognitions
of achievements.
At 6 p.m-., the 28
graduates assembled at
Colborne Township Hall
for their graduation
dinner served and
catered to by Tiger
Dunlop Women's
Institute at which Jan-
nette Middel acted as
Director of 'Ceremonies.
After grace given by
Karen Hyde, all observed
the toast to the Queen by
Sharon Lomas,
A sumptuous
smorgasbord was en-
joyed by the class and
guests after which Paul
Jewell. thanked the
ladies. Mr. John Kane,
principal of Colborne
Central, proposed .a toast
to the graduates to which
Rhonda Bean replied.,
Jeff Feagan'introduced
the guest speaker, Mike
Rogers of Colborne
Township who had a very
interesting message and.
spoke to the students at
their graduation level'. „
Lori Dykstra thanked the
sneaker and Scott Stoll
pi esented him with a
thank -you gift.
Janna Dam, 4aledic..
torian for the graduating.
class then gave her talk
which was ;quite in.
keeping with this special
night for the class. Guests
for the dinner, Reeve
William Bogie and Board
of Education represen-
tative, Mrs. Shirley
Hazlitt, brought
greetings ,"and spoke
words of encouragement.
At 8 p.m. the, school
auditorium had only
standing room left as
pupils of the school,
parents and friends were
assembled and gave .a
standing ovation as the
graduating class and
school staff entered the
room and- occupied the
seats arranged for them.
Mr. Kane, principal,
welcomed all present and
acted as Director of
Ceremonies for the
evening and following
presentation of '.awards
were made.
