At the first public meeting held on Thursday evening at the Agriculture Hall to dis- cuss plans for 1980's Dun- gannon centennial, some head -way was made but - there must be more of a turnout. Another meeting has been -scheduled for Tues _day, July 10 to elect officers and pick the different com- mittees to get this centennial off the ground. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Paul O'Donnell (nee Elaine Stewart) who were married on Saturday at Kingsbridge. ` - Mrs, Jessie Oliver, a form- er resident, was buried in Dungannon Cemetery on Saturday. She and her sister, the late Liza McMillan, had resided in the house now Occupied -by Alex and Lynn Chisholm. Marvin Smith is home again from Wingham Hospit- al after a short stay. We are very glad to report itwasn't a heart attack as first thought. DEATHS The death of Norris Ribey occured in Wiarten, Ontario on July 5. The late Norris Ribey - was. a brother of George Ribey of Seaforth; son-in-law of Mrs. Amy Wig- gins of Dungannon. His par= ents, the late Orville and Mary -Ribey had resided in Colborne ' Township where, two brothers still reside. Mrs. Marion Hunt of Dor- 'chester spent a few days ,visiting with her sister, Mrs. Dorothy Pentland and hus- band, Benson who reside on the 6th of Ashfield. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Biloy, Kristin, Judy and. Wednesday evening at North Ashfield the "Ileers' defeat- ed N.A. 27 - 12 and at Dungannon the A's defeated Kintail 17 • 16. In the . mini tournament held in Dungannon on Sun- day, July 8, In the first game played at noon,. Dungannon defeated Port Albert by a 7 6 score and Eager Beavers defeated Carlow Country 16 - S. The two losing teams,then played and Carlow Country defeated Port Albert by a score of 18 - 2. The two _ winning teams then_played a very well matched game with ungannon doings Marie Park correspondent Scott of Mt. Harold Stirling of Thames- ville spent a week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robertlrvine and'on Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Irwin of -- Sarnia visited at the Irvine home. -_ Sympathy is extended to 'Mrs. Jean Irwin (Treleaven) and family on the sudden death of a Husband and father, Harvey Irwin, on Fri- day evening as the result of a farm accident. Jean is a daughter of the late -Harvey Treleaven and Mrs. Tre- leaven who resides in Lon- don. On Saturday, visitors •with Mr. and Mrs. Benson Pent- - land were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Salter .of Harrow, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth, Salter of Cottam, Miss Gwen Salter of Windsor and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Allison of -Woodsley. SPORTS On the --sports- scene last week, Dungannon Soccer team defeated Kingsbridge 2 - 0 in a well played match at Brookside on Tuesday even- ing. Goals were scored by - Paul Jerome and John Cur- ran. This gives the Dungan- non squad 2 wins and 1 tie game.. At Colborne• Central, Lucknow defeated a short handed Colborne team by V, score of 6 to 4. In the slo-pitch league at Dungannon on Monday, Jply 2nd, Kingsbridge defeated North Ashfield. On Tuesday evening Lanes defeated. Bel- fast 32 - 12. On Wednesday evening Dungannon lost to Lucknow by a•11 - 5 score. On 529 -7719 - Eager • Beavers defeating Dung'ahnon by a 4 - 3 score. DUNGANNON UNITED CHURCH Rev. C. G. Westhaver preached the seventh in the series of sermons on Genes- is, "Noah and . the., Flood". ,Miss Helen Elliott sang --a solo, - "Did , You Stop - to Pray?" The flowers in the churchwere a reminder of the recent passing of William= Berry. A 'community shower in honour of Miss Sherry Boak is being held in the Sunday Schoolroom on Wednesday evening. The annual Vacation Bible School begins on July 16 in the two churches, Dungan- non United and Christian Fellowship. CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP ' CHURCH - There will be a ' program for children' and parents in 1 -he Christian Fellowship • Church, on • Friday- evening. A group of 18 ladies met on Wednesday afternoon at the .. home.of-- Miss- -Pearl Caldwell to hear Gay Ousthu- yzen speak.. Gay is the daughter of Mr. and. Mrs. Lawrence and with her hus- band and family of six, is visiting in .Ontario, from South Africa. She told incid- ents 'relating to a mission- ary's life that were- challeng- ing and amusing. OUTDOOR SERVICE Lester Keh,ifrom Floradale Church gave the message at the "second of ,five drive-in Sunday evening services. A ladies trio from the same church supplied the music. Rev. FRA1N RIEGLING A meeting of about 20 people took place in Kings- bridge Parish Hall -on June -25th with Richard Hewitt of London as -guest speaker. Mr, Hewitt is with the New Horizons program and ex- plained -the- many - projects which the grant will cover. Me__Hewitt came at the invi- tation of the Kingsbridge Genealogical Society who ate preparing a parish history for the 75th anniversary in 1980 of the opening of St. Jos- eph's Church, Kingsbtidge. As the meeting was called to discuss forming - a Senior Citizens Group in the area, this could be part of one of the projects.- Mr. Hewitt suggested finding out how many senior citizens would be involved in the different projects and ,. how many would benefit. The group could plan their own recre- ational and social activities, and would include all 'inter- ested senior citizens. Mrs. John . Austin thanked Mr. Hewitt for coming and for his encouragement in getting a program underway. Lunch was served. A second meeting was held in Kingsbridge Parish Hall on July 4th with inter- ested people of the area at- tending. Nominations took place t>nd Co -Chairman Hel- en McCarthy and Dennis Dalton will contact all senior citizens who would lie inter- ested in forming a group for Recreational and Social Act- ivities. The next meeting will be ;held on Thursday, July 26th in Kingsbridge Parish Hall. At that time, 10 direct- ors--will--be--- selected and a name for the group. Come on out and show your interest and enthusiasm for Happy Times. We'll be, there -- will you? _ • Mr. and Mrs. Gys Milten- burg from the Netherlands are 'visiting with Mr. and Mrs. John Miltenburg and. Mr. and Mrs. Reis Milten- burg and families. Gys is the youngest brother of John and Reis. Joseph Judge and child- ren, Karen and Tim of Jack- son, Michigan visited , with the Austin and Courtney; families during the past week. Karen has remained for holidays with her great aunt, Grace Austin and John and family. Tim is'holidaying with his great uncle, Joe Courtney, Theresa and fam- ily: Mr, and Mrs. Joe Court- ney received word from, their son, Wayne telling them he now working with a local contractor ,„in Methuen, New Zealand. .Wayne, a carpent- er, has a one • year - working visa for the Southern Pacifie,- Combining work with pleas- ure, he is now building a ski hire and clothing store, and making other additions to the ski lodge there and enjoying the -outdoor sports of skiing and hiking. Before travelling to New Zealand, Wayne and his friend, Reinhardt Voel- mie had been working and sight seeing , in the Fiji gathered at the home of her brother, Michael O'Neill to hold a family reunion and attend the O'Donnell and Stewart wedding. Those at- tending from a distance were, Mrs. James Moore Sr.,' Mr. and Mrs. Jim Moore and family from Huntington. West Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brace andfamily from Kingsbridge Islands and in New - South Wales, Australia.
