Patterson scored the final Dunlop run as they edged their Maitland counterparts 5- 3 in. the Industiral League annual all-star game.(photoby Dave - Sykes ) Former hockeyplayers here for reunion Former Goderich minor and senior hockey players and a host of fans gathered at the Goderich Community Centre, Saturday for the first, of what is hoped to be, many hockey reunions. Close to 100 former players and • fans and their wives from across the province were in Goderich on the weekend for the reunion. The get _together was organized by George Westlake and Gord - Walters and they began researching names and contacting players early in April. They -pored through scrapbooks, lists of names and made 'dozens of long distance calls to reach players. in all parts of the province. The, basic concept of the reunion was to get former championship team players as well as coaches, executive and 'house league players, together. Word of the' reunion was passed along by players'•rbut several were missed, • which is why organizers are anxious to hold a similar reunion agaain. The reunion brought players together from tge famous Louzon Flyers, midget, bantam, Junior B p and Intermediateteary,' from the past 30 years. "Ivan Louzon; Do Ainslie, Toronto and Ken Doig, Seafgrth represented the 194 Louzon Flyers. Don McArthur; Owen Sound and Frank Miller, Waterloo played with the Goderich , ' Midget championship team . in 1955-56 and Vern Skeoch Fergus,a former bantam player also attended. Guest also included members of the 'minor hockey system such as Ed Laithwaite and Ernie Pinder of ississauga and' Arn L ithwaite, Owen Sound and George 1 G players and coaches Gord Walters, Ted Williams, George Westlake and Doug Harrison. rney W • th three wins The Gosjerich legion Peewees tuned up for the Legion •district tour- nament this Saturday winning three league games this week. Last Wednesday the peewees dumped Crediton 21-12 and .then handed Clinton their first loss of the season with a 15-10 win, Friday. Goderich added their •third win of the week hammering Seaforth 27-8, Saturday. • Last'. Wednesday against Crediton, Goderich rallied from a 6- 1 after two and one half innings of play with a 12- , run outburst in the bot- tom of the third. They took command.of ' the game ,,from thre and added nine runs in their final two at bats to secure the win. Jim Keller and 'Mike' McCallum led the peewees offensively with four hits' each Keller hit ,4 the circuit with a single, double, triple and home run and scored three runs. McCallum had a double and three triples, two of them in the 12 -run third inning. He scored four runs. Team-mates Matt Buchanan, Randy Gaynor and Robbie Gibbons chipped in with two hits apiece. Gaynor and Buchanan also scored four runs each. Goderich finally handed Clinton their first loss of the season, Friday - with a 15-10 victory in Clinton. The peewees 'Will be participating in the Legion district tour- nament in Goderich Saturday with Clinton, Listowel and Exeter. The teams will play a round robin format with play beginning at l0 a.m. The raceway opened after a two year absence and over 1,000 fans turned out for the first night of harness racing. The wins improved Gords record to nine wins against five losses' for 16 points. McGee .has 18 points on eight wins, three losses and two ties. Classic road rade and fun run will he held in the town streets' • this Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.. -The race is open to all runners and joggers and •is being held in-- con- junction with the Festival of the Arts. As many as 60 runners have already registered for the race and anyone • still wishing to enter may do so the morninging of the race. Saturday, between '8 and' l0 a.m. at" the town hall. The race will beginat the town hall, proceed around The Square and wend through the streets of Goderich ona 10 km trek that will finish at the town hall. Organizers are con- fident there will be 100 - ''•- runners by race time. • The run is open to all • enthusiasts of any calibre and is not stressing the competitive angle. The first three finishers in both the men's and women's divisions will receive beer steins and all finishers will receive free t -shirts. In a run of this length the participants ap- preciate being cooled off once Ina wniie ana -- residents whose homes are along th.e route 'are asked to keep their hoses. handy and spray the runners as they pass. Spectators along the routeare asked to keep whose handy and spray the runners as they pass by Saturday morning.
