pcle..8 is
. a year to
remember
BY JOHN PETERS
Good evening ladies,
gentlemen, graduates,
and, teachers. Welcome
to the 78-79 grade eight
graduation. '•
I would like to thankthe
teachers at this -point for
seeing another class of
students succeed another
year. As I look .bver the
graduates, I canAbis_day
will long by remembered
by • everyone-- . well,
almost everyone.
Grade eight is a year to
remember. " I'm sure
eyszyclie could recall
back to his or her final
year in elementary
school. It feels like•
yes terda y th_a.t- I Kist
started. I refused togo to
school, as I'm sure
everyone did. But it
wasn't so bad untillater,
when we had to go all
day. •
Grade eight, however, •
is probably the best year
with all the fund raising
activities, practical jokes
on supply teachers,
playing on sc-hool teams,
and recess. And then
there is the trip at the end
of the year.
You've put up with the
monotonous hours of
homework, the boring,.
instructional pee -Rids, arid
getting rid of those teeny •
weeny little. desks •that
have to be cleaned.
Everyone is talking and
singing on the 401 when
all. of a sudden', the tire'
blows.- It always hap-
pens. •
The month of June goes
by the -slowest, but finally'
graduation night arrives.
Everyone gets all dreSsed
up in - suits which have
been wcrn..for...the..first
and last time tonight
:• probably, and in shoes
that pinch: • The day
- arrives...and-At-is-
the hottest day of the -
year.
These will by the good
• 'oldaYs in the future.
Summer comes and the
• summer. bore.dom follows
shortly, but finally high
\school days arrive.
Everybody seerhs to
know everything now,
and think they're smart --
until they get into the
building, and then they're
lost in the halls.
The majority of -
students i11 take their
second big step in
graduating from high
school. A lesser number
will finish college or
university. But . no
matter which one you
pick, I_ hope it is. the right
one for you.
I would like to
congratulate, all the
_grade- eights,_ and_ _may
you all have a good
summer and many good
years to come.'
