The first half of the tennis playdoWrns . were held on Sunday ''and Monday, which, turned out to be a beautiful day,. saw the final results being confirmed, Mer„'s Champion is Bob Dick --whey defeated Paul Brown in an excellent match, best two out of three. Men's Consolation winner is Bill Shewfelt over Andrew Tolchard. Lucie - Turcotte defeated last year's lady's champion., Margaret Conlon, to become Lady's Cham- pion in a, really exciting set best two out of three, Shelagh- Sully won out over Lori Hassall for Lady's Consolation winner. These matches were sponsored by Brian Warrilow of Garb & Gear. On Sunday, 1.1 hardy couples- braved ' the lowering skies for an afternoon of couples' golf, with a barbecue supper afterwards — John Kane,_ Master Chef, presiding. First prize went to Shelagh. Sully and Jack Hinton. Second prize to Verna Kane and Bob - McDougall with Pat. Jewell and Bill McKellar vieing for prize as most honest golfers. • Next twosome af- ternoon will be held on. - Sunday, July 15- same time, same -place. Don't miss it, it sounds like fun. Ladies' Golf night-.- on the previous Tuesday had 28 ladies out 'with first flight winner being Hazel Beaver, lowest -putts Sue White. Second flight winner was Verna` Jackson • with Mark Evans following. Ardith Brissette had the keen eye on the greens.. Sally MacEwan Kay Duncan and Irla Stewart led the third flight with , Verna Worthy having lowest number of putts — 11 wasn't it, Verna! Auleen Curry was winner in fourth flight, with Nonie Collier . winning putting prize. Pat "Munro was closest to the pin on No. 1. Three of the Goderich .ladies entered the Ladies Invitational at Listowel and all came home happy prizewinners_ .- The big winner was Edna Looker, who was low net .for the field. Nice golfing, Edna! s one of her flight prizes (s -he can't remember which), a birdie ball, and lowest number of putts for the field. Last but not least, Jean Fla y came in third low netin her flight. Men's night will be held on Thursday due to holiday 'on Monday. There were a number of men down on Monday getting those matches played off. My partner and I happened to be following the foursome of Gould and Kane playing against the brothers Murphy, Pat and Mike. This was a match of experience versus youth, and youth won out: Brissette and Duncan went down before the pair of Hanly and MacEwan. A certain gent (who shall remain nameless) wants to apologize to the tennis players for driving his ball into the tennis courts in the middle of a _game.
