Aub -urn's -ram m un ity
organization is the
Women's Institute.
The world wide -
organization brought a
branch to Auburn in 1922.
Mrs. Herbert Mogridge
and Mrs. Charles
Straughan were_the first
presidents, and 27
members were enrolled.
The Institute's main
project has been the
upkeep of the kitchen in
the Community
,Memorial Hall. When the
hall was built in 1961, the
ladies futnished it, and
they still keep it stocked.
The Institute published
the Tweedsmuir Village
history book in 1974, as
well as the
"Reminiscenses of
Auburn" in 1948.
The ladies sponsor 4-H
Clubs, and provide
various sclfolarihips for
'girls continuing their
education.
.The Women's Institute'
has about 55 members'
this year. President is
Mrs, Eleanor Bradnock;
first vice is Mrs. Gordon
Powell; second vice is
Mrs. Hugh Bennett;
secretary -treasurer is
Mrs. Robert Peck; public
relations officer is Mrs.
Bud - Chamney; and
district director is Mrs.
Tom Haggit.
There are two main
projects the ladies are
undertaking for the12,5th
birthday celebrations.
They are building a float
for the parade, and they
are presenting "Auburn
as it Was", consisting of
pictures of businesses
and people.
