Hardware
one
of oldest
businesses
Auburn Hardware,
owned by Jim and
Dorothy Schneider, was
built by James Young.
Robert Nicholson used it
as a harness shop for
quite some time before
selling it to John
Nicholson.
At one time, it was a
'double dwelling, housing
a millinery- shop and a
dressmaking shop,
Alexander McKenzie
used it as a harness shop
and Alfred Asquith used
it ' as a storehouse for
flour and feed. It was
turned into a hardware
store and residence by
James Stewart and later
owned by George Den-
stedt.
In 1918, it was bought
by James H. Johnston,
who added a garage for
his son Thomas.
