Robert Nicholson used it as a harness shop for quite some time before selling it to John Nicholson. At one time, it was a 'double dwelling, housing a millinery- shop and a dressmaking shop, Alexander McKenzie used it as a harness shop and Alfred Asquith used it ' as a storehouse for flour and feed. It was turned into a hardware store and residence by James Stewart and later owned by George Den- stedt. In 1918, it was bought by James H. Johnston, who added a garage for his son Thomas.
