The Library
Annual school concert
ponsored early volumes
Auburn formed its first
library in 1897. It was
located over John
Arthur's store and Miss
Susie ._Blair ...was ..the. first,
librarian.
In 1939, the library was
moved to the•new fire hall
which is its present
location. The Auburn
Library board joined the
Huron County Library
Association on, April 1,
1942.
Money for the books
came from membership
fees, and grants from
annual concerts put on by
local talent and school
children.
In 1959, the Huron
County library van
started coming to the
library every three.
months with county books
on loan. This rotation of
books still takes place.
Through the combined
efforts of the Women's
Institute, the village
trustees, and former
library board members,
extensive redecoration
was done in the library.
An electric heater was
installed, the walls and
ceiling were painted, and
new drapes were hung on
the windows. A new desk,
12 chairs and two tables
were added to the fur-
nishings.
The present librarian is
Mrs. Lilian Letherland,
who has heid the post
since last September.
