name
changes
On June 1, 1961, the
Canadian Bank of
Commerce and the
Imperial Bank of Canada
came together, forming
the Canadian Imperial
Bank of Commerce.
Bank name changes
have been common ex-
perience in Auburn. The
Sterling Hank of Canada
decided to open in Auburn
in February of 1907. At
that time, it was a sub-
agency operating out of
Goderich, with Mr.
Sutherland as manager.
The bank operated in a
building on Goderich
Street which was for-
merly John Naegle's
Hardware store. In 1911,
while F.O. Mcllveen was
manager, the present red
brick building was built
at the corner of Goderich
and Loftus Streets.
In 1925, Auburn's bank
became a full branch
when Sterling 'was ab-
sorbed by the Standard
Bank of Canada. The
name charged again in
November of 1928, when
the Canadian Bank of
Commcrce took over the
Standard Bank of
Canada.
The bank became a
sub -agency again at the
height of World War II. In
1353, Auburn was given
full status as a branch
again, with Dungannon
as a sub -agency.
Also in that year, the
interior was remodelled
and an addition added,
cantaining a larger vault.
The present manager is
Dave Scott, who has been
in Auburn for about a
year. Mr. Scott was in
Tillsonburg previously.
