Celebrate Living— is theme
The theme of this
year's Senior Citizens'
Week - 'Celebrate Living'
- conveys an important
' message for Ontarians of
all ages.,
While Senior Citizens'
Week gives us an op-
portunity to hdnour our
citizens who are 65 years
of age or older, it should
also cause each of us to
recpnsider our Attitudes
about older people. 1
We should remember
that many of our greatest
leaders and citizens have
contributed to their
communities well beyond
their 65th year: Winston
Currell reunion held
The sixth Currell
reunion was held Sunday,
June 17 at the farm of Jim
and Joyce Oke in
Goderich Township.
A lovely noon hour
meal was served and
games for all were held in
the afternoon.
Sixty people attended
the reunion this year, all
descendants of Edward
andBlanche (Walter)
Currell. Those attending
came from Oshawa,
Agincourt, Scarborough,
Mississauga, Zurich,
Walton and surrounding
district.
The 1980 reunion will be
held at the same place,
the fourth Sunday in
June.
Churchill, Pablo Picasso
and Michelangelo come
to mind, as well as
Canadians like Dr.
Robert McClure, Nellie
McClung and A. Y.
Jackson.
'If Senior Citiiens' Week
can focus on the vitality
of older people, Perhaps it
will help our' leaders to
recognize that it's time to
abandon the laws that
force retirement at age
65.
While most people look
forward to retirement,
there are many who are
very willing and able to
contribute their working
skills and experience
beyond the age of 65. It is
the freedom to choose
either course that is
New play opening
• Ghoulies, ghosties and
things that go bump in the
night will populate the
stage of the Blyth
Memorial Hall when "I'll
Be Back For You Before
'Midnight" opens on July
3
The play, which is the
second ' offering of the
Blyth Summer Festival
season, is as mysterious
as its title suggests. It
concerns a young
idealistic couple who
move to the country
looking for peace and
tranquility. What awaits
them, however, is a
series of disconcerting
incidents that lead them
to reconsider their dream
of a pastoral idyll.
Meanwhile, though,
their misadventures are
the grist of a comic mill
that will have audiences
rolling in the aisles. Just
imagine all the hilarious
events that can befall a
couple unused to the
vagaries of rural life and
you'll have a picture of
what to expect on July 3
and throughout the Blyth
season.
Theatre -goers will
recognize some familiar
faces in the cast. Peter
Snell, fondly remem-
._here.d.. for his portrayal
last season of the harried
businessman in "His Own
Boss", returns to play
Greg, a well-meaning but
accident-prone city boy
who aspires to be a
farmer. Angie Gei, whose
talents have been well
displayed on Festival
stages over the past five
years, plays Jan, his
patient but nervous wife.
Kate Trotter, another
Festival veteran, creates
the role of the mysterious
sister-in-law, and Peter
Elliott completes the cast
as George, a friendly
local farmer.
Directing duties for
"I'II Be Back For You
Before Midnight" ,have
been taken care of -by
Keith Batten, whose
directing credits include
several productions at
Theatre London and at
the Stratford Festival,
