' On Sunday the Com- pany xbutout Ziebart 6-0 behind the three -hit pitching effort ofStan Doherty and Monday they shaded Green and Parent 4-2. The victories leave Canada Company with a record of eight wins and three losses for 16 points. French trails by two points but also has a game in hand. While Doherty shut down the Ziebart offence with a stingypitching effort Canada Company labelled tWo Ziebart pitchers fdr six runs on 11 hits. Canada Company scored single runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings and added twa runs in the third. Doherty was also responsible for much of the offence generated by Canada Company with cbmcebito in three trips to the plate. He singled in the second, fourth and seventh inning and was the only Ziebart player to reach base in the game. Canada Company racked up their eighth win of the season Monday with a 4-2 victory over Green and Parent. Green and Parent opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a two -run homer by Jim Makin that scored Dan Duncan. -'- '~ Canada Company took the lead in the third in- ning with a three -run outburst on the strength of doubles by Rob MooDono\d, Doherty and John O'Keefe. Goderich had tied the game with twa runs in the bottom of the seventh but two walks and an error in the eighth fvd to the Plumbers loss With two out in the eighth inning, Bonnie Miller nailed udouble for' Moorefield. The next two batters walked to load the bases and then three runs scored on an error. The loss was a tough one for dvc Little Plumbers after they held a two -run lead early in the game, fell bebind, battled back to tie the score in the seventh before losing on the error. Moorefield put the game away with three runs in the sixth and eihth inni Carol Cruickshank led the Plumbers offensively with three hits in five trips to the plate in- cluding a run -scoring double in the fourth in- ning. Karen Melady chipped with two hits and scored a run. Miller, Grace Bultuand Patti Youngblut had two hits apiece for Moorefield. Elliott and Bev Wright shared the mound duties for Goderich and allowed eight runs on six hits. The play begins at 10 a.m. with the feature game, Goderich vs. Bay City. At 10.50 Clinton Will play Kincardine and at 11.40 the German Cunudiuns will play Grand Bend. Second round action begins at 1.40 and play will continue until the championship match at 6.30 p.m. The teams will be awarded two pointsforo win and one for a tie. They will play 20 minute. halfs with the final game u\ feature 30 minute ha|&. In soccer action this week the Goderich United A team got a strong second half effort to dump Oakridge 4-1 Oakridge scored the first goaof the game and led l'0athalf time. Goderith tied the game in the second half on a head ball by Dave Graf. Mark Bellinger and Lee Arbour scored to ive Goderich a 3-1 lead and Rolf Gottschalk clinched the win with a gou\'on a penalty shot. Tfhe United B team was less- fortunate although their 10 -man squad gave norwich a tough game in a 1-0 loss. Norwich scored the only goal of the game late in the second half. Goderich goalkeeper, Greg Smith, played an outstanding game making seve-ral sparkling saves to keep United in the game. lineup all crossed the plate in the opening in- ning. Goderich added four more runs in the third inning. Arbour, Ted Doherty, Dave Willis and Del Mitchelmore scored runs in that inning. (Photo by Jim Hagarty) Legion peewees earn inW�x�������� �����JLK��� The Goderich Legion Peewees earned the -ight to represent the district in the zone baseball tournament with a second place finish in Kin- cardine, Saturday; in'ourdino.Ssuurduy; The Goderich Legion peewees finished second behind Clinton in a five team tournament Saturday and the top two teams will represent this district in the zone tournament in Goderich, July 14. Clinton was undefeated in the Kincardine tour- nament winning two games and receiving a bye. Goderich won two games and lost one to ,Kincordinc, which was good for second spot. Kincardine finished the tourney with one win, one loss and a bye and were originally awarded second place ahead of Goderich. But the bye was not considered a win and Goderich was awarded the second placeOn|oh Goderich lost their first game of the tournament by an 8-3 decision to Kincardine. Kincardine piled up an eight run lead after five innings and Goderich made the game respectable with a three' run rally in the sixth inning. Randy Gaynor, Matt Buchanan and Mike Pltre scored the Goderich runs. The Legion peewees easily won their second game, 19-7 over Seaforth on the trength of a nine - run outburst in the fifth inning. Goderich nailed down a berth in the tournament with a 6-4 win over Exeter in their final game. Goderich led 4-0 after tw6 innings but Exeter got back 'i8e:gum*widh three runs in the third inning. Goderich scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to carry a 6-3 lead into the final inning. Exeter managed one run in thoir final at but. In league action Monday, Ciinton dumped Goderich 18-7. Goderich � attracts many area �� �����������w�^ &��� ���4k � K���8/��k��� �� Local running or jogging enthusiasts will have a chance to test their North Stars against some competition in the Goderich 10 km Classic road race July 14. The classic is open to all runners and joggers and a p|euaiuA 10 km route has been mapped thorugh the streets of Goderich for the event. Goderich Recreation d|rector. Jim Moore, reported that runners 'from Guelph, Stratford and London have registered for the race and although there has been some local 'ntereyt more runners are needed. Moore said he hopes to register 200 runners in the event. The race, run in con- junction with the Festival on']uncdonnithdboFendvu| of the Arts, will begin at town hall and wend its through the tree -lined streets of town. There will be a mens and womens division with prizes to the top three finishers and t -shirts for all participants. The race will begin at„, 10 a.m. Saturday July 13 and registration, at a cos of $3 must be submitted to the recreation office by June 30. 4 ~ Aek.�=~=-
