You know it is won-
derful to have grand-
children who have
children and you have the
God-given chance to
observe both of them.
I happened upon a
snapshot of tine of -m-y
granddaughters, who was
a cute little tyke when she
was small --oh, they were
all cute, when they were
growing up. Interesting,
amazing and 4ovable.
This little minx now has
a duplicate of herself - in
fact I had thought for a
second, the snapshot was
of her daughter but her
daughter has, so far,
never had the chance to
splash in the Maitland at
Pipers' Dam.
I could just hear the
squealing and the
laughter as I gazed at
that little black and white
photo - they always had
such a wonderful time in
that fast moving, shallow
water. Too bad there
were so few times but
when you live over 150
miles away, it has to,be a
special occasion to bring
them to our river when it
is warm enough for
Susie, then, was the age
of her youngster now -
and the resemblance was
just amazing. I realized
the resemblance in looks,
all right, - but the chatter
was new and different. It
wasn't until I "heard" the
laughter in that small
photo that I realized how
much alike they are.
I don't know if this little
one will break into poetry
or dance at the drop of a
hat but her mother, at
that age - about four -
would rhyme stories and
chatter on and on with
everything rhyming -
amazingly.
I'm only sorry I could
not have recorded some
of it - but then we did not
have those jim-dandee
recorders we have now.
How many people do little
sneak recordings of their
kids? Someday, I'm sure,
you are going to say you
wish you had done this
when it was so spon-
taneous. Now it is hard to
make anyone believe
they could have been so
good. Folks think you're -
just bragging.
.Susie now is alovely
young woman, very
knowledgeable; very
clever with her hands -
makes many beautiful
things - .smart clothes,
TtAb
macrame things, pottery
and many other crafts
all this with a lovely
home and two beautiful
children and a fine
husband who seems to
appreciate the fact that
he married -a mos -t
amazing young woman.
How fortunate that she
has an apparent
duplicate - well almost -
to raise to become
another young woman of
the world of tomorrow.
With the opportunities
the children have now,
what will it be like 20
years from now? I would
like to be around to know
THAT little Susie.
Over the weekend we
visited in Windsor and
had a wonderful time.
We had visits with most
of the relatives there and
had the opportunity to get
acquainted - better
acquainted - with another
segment of the family.
Usually we stay at my
son's home and all the
kids come home on the
weelt6td but his oldest
daughter and her
husband convinced us it
was about time we spent
a weekend -with them and
so another wonderful
weekend has come and
gone and we have another'.
set of beautiful memories
to file away in our
"Memory Btank".
These young people - I
was going to say were
"fortunate to have
bought" - but they were
"farsighted" enough to
have bought a fine and
large piece of property in
Windsor with its back-
end to the 901 highway. It
is a real hike from the
house to the back of the
property where they have
a large pit barbeque -
using up all the old logs
and heavy chunks of
wood. They have bikes or
trikes with the large
balloon type wheels
(three of them) which are
great for rough terrain,
fun for ridingin the back
forty and a great con-
veyance from the house
to the back end and back
again,. This makes for a
very private type of
gathering around the fire
for 20 to 40 people - young
and old.
Then, they now have a
very large pool - which,
with the paving and
fenced- in area, takes up
about one quarter of the
backyard space.
Saturday, there were at
1, A
least 20 people having a
great old time swimming
and running around. The
children especially were
fun to watch. The
weather was just great -
pretty warm - but Sunday
nite it cooled- down -
Martha Rathburn
Monday a.m. felt like
February to me!
These young people
work very hard and have
spent a lot just improving
their home instead of
buying a bigger, more
expensive one. They„had
looked for a bigger place
but found the prices up in
the hundred thousands -
so now they have a
beautiful home with all
the frills - and they did it
themselves - and they
enjoy it. We came back to
our wee, place and said
"u.g.g.!" And so it goes.
People were telling of
the great strawberries
they have been picking.
with Martha
Have you been out?
Seems this is the right
time - you find the place.
There mustbe a
Strawberry Festival or
two around - they're
always great.
Don't forget to visit our -
old historical jail each.
Sunday now until Labour
Day, while the flea
markets, antique cars
and a lot of things are
happening.
The Rotary Club have
set their date for their
.-next paper pickup - July
7, a Saturday. They also
ask if you would put out
any paperback or har-
dback books that you can
donate for their hook sale
at Art Mart starting July
12, 13 and 19.
Remember papers -
packed in big paper hags
- you can get quite a lot in
there - or tied up - also the
paperback Dr hard rover
books at the same time
for pickup.
The Bible schools are
starting in early July. See
the Bulletin Board.
