WINS AWARD
Congratulations to Mrs.
Sherry Foran who was
presented last Saturday
with the Donna Cairns
Wright Award at the
awards presentation of
the Faculty of Nursing at
the University of Western
Ontario.

first time for Excellence,
Commitment, and
Caring in Nursing. Mr.
and Mrs. Lawrence
Plaetzer attended their,
daughter's awards
ceremony.
BIRTHDAY PLANS
Bill Crawford, con-
venor of the parade
committee, announced
that over 65 floats and
seven bands have now
entered the 125th bir-
thday party parade on
June 30.
Following the parade
the bands are going to
present a tattoo and first
to commence will be four
bands playing ,0 Canada. -
The Windsor Pipe Band
will perform on the ball
diamond followed by the
Goderich Laketown band
on the platform.
The St. Andrews Drum
-and Bugle' band"' Wi11
perform on the ball
diamond.
The fourth band is the
Seaforth, Dashwood
community, with the fifth
band the Brussels Pipe
Band performing on the
ball diamond.
Number six will be the
Paris Citizen' band on the
platform and the seventh
'will ',be., the Normandy
Brass Band.
HERITAGE
COMPETITION
Mrs. ' Beth Lansing,
Mrs. Myrtle Munro and
Mrs. Gordon Gross an-
nounced the winners of
the Heritage competition
sent to elementary
•schools in the com-
munity. ,'Brookside,
Kingsbridge and East
Wawanosh schools en-
tered the competition and
special thanks to those
teachers who made the
effort to see that their
pupils would become
interested. Hullett
Central, Blyth and
Colborne schools had also
-been-notified and sent the
competitions.
The contest in the
Primary (Grades 1-3)
consisted of models of a
pioneer farm, showing
tools used for farming in
pioneer days, and a short
story - "What is a
Pioneer?"
The winners • were

Provo, Brookside; Karen

pioneer to -day". The

the' models and essays
are displayed in • the
window along with the
souvenirs in the former
Auburn Variety store.

PAGEANT
Mrs. Lillian Hallam
convenor of the Heritage
Birthday pageant an-
nounced at the meeting
that there are seven girls
entered in the' com-
petition. There will be
heritage.... dresses and
speeches and also
exhibits of -crafts around
the Auburn Community
Memorial Hall on Friday
June 29 from 2:00 p.m. to
4:00 p.m. Three judges
will judge the 'com-
petition and the
presentation will take
place after 9 p.m. at the
dance. Everyone
welcome.

discussed the plans for
the chicken barbecue to
be held on July 1 from 4 to
7 p.m. at the hall. Tickets
are to be sold in advance.
Arva Machan is in
charge of selling the 600
tickets.
The Shriners were
present and stated that
they will be serving their
fish fry and ham dinner
from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. in
the hall on Saturday June
30 and no tickets will be
sold in advance.
Mr. Scarlett, liquor
inspector, was present
and led in a discussion on
requirements to be met.
Other committees
reported on work done
and it was decided that
the 125th souvenir hats
would go on sale on
Saturday June 16.

June 23. The' entry at the
Clinton Spring Fair
driven by Bill Glousher
will receive a small

services.

Allan Craig led in the

volunteers offered their

United ' Church Women
held their general
meeting on Wednesday
evening with Unit „1 in
charge. Mrs. John Durnin
and Mrs. Ernest Durnin
conducted the worship on
the theme of Love.
The opening hymn was
"Love Divine all Love
Excelling" with Mrs:
Kenneth McDougall at
the piano. Scripture
,pasages were read from
St. John 13 and 19
followedby meditation
and prayer on the theme.

and Mrs. Maurice Bean
received the offering. The
president, Mrs. Donald
Haines presided for the
business with Mrs. Beth

secretary, recording.

Plans were completed
for the 'hospitality lunch
to be served after
"Auburn as It 'Was" on
July 2, and for Sunday
June 24 when a social
time will be held
following the morning
service.
Plans were completed
for the dinner to be
served at 11 a.m. on
Saturday June 30 for the
special guests and
executive at the 125th
birthday celebrations.
Members were asked to
watch for further in-
formation on a mystery
bus tour in August.
The Alma College week
in August was referred to
Mrs. Gerald MoDowell,
the convener of leader-
ship development, and a
workshop will be held on

June 18 at Menesetung
Park.
Following the business,
all enjoyed pictures of
Spain and Morocco which
Mrs. Earl St. Jean and
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ball
"had taken during a recent
vacation there. Both
ladies commented on the
pictures showing
beautiful architecture
especially the mosques,
the market places, triode
of travel, waterways,
mountains and the bull
fights.
Mrs. Donald Haines
thanked the ladies and
also took the opportunity
to thank Mrs. St. Jean for
her friendship and- help
during her three years at
Auburn. A suitable poem
was read and Mrs. St.
Jean was presented with
a gift from the United
Church Women. Mrs. St.
Jean thanked the ladies
in well chosen words.
Reverend St. Jean closed
the meeting with prayer.
Unit 1 served cake and
ice cream for a social
hour.
PLANE CRASH KILLS
HUSBAND OF
FORMER AUBURN
GIRL -
Miss Laura Phillips
received word last
Saturday that the plane
crash last week near
Toronto involved Howard
(Larry) Sly of Kingston.
Mr. Sly is the husband of
a former Auburn girl, the
former Joan Sheppard. --
She is the daughter of
Mrs. Hurst Sheppard now
of Bright's Grove and the,
late Mr Sheppard. Mr.
Sheppa ,,was bank
manager and he and his
family lived in the ,bank
apartment about 40 years
ago.
The sympathy of
friends is extended to
Joan and her family,at
this time. Mr. Sly was a
land developer and had
his own private plane and
according to TV mews the
plane went down with the,
two occupants in it.

Sharon 'Glousher
received a letter of
thanks from Gregory
Scharer, of Toledo Ohio
for finding his balloon
which she had found
under her father's car on
May 4. Gregory, seven
years old, had released
the balloon when 1,000
had been let go. Only 16
had been found and the
word had been sent back
to Toledo to his school.
