Strong southerly winds
produced ideal sailing
conditions last weekend
much to the delight off
dozens of Goderich
lub_t -c ompiete
sailors.
Three races in the
spring serieshave been
completed, with one more
next Sunday afternoon.
Last weekend's races
were, to quote one avid
sailor, "The most fun
yet!" with some close
tacking duels, some
excellent spinnaker
handling, and a lot of

Canada Company lost
the distinction of
maintaining the best
record in the Industrial
Fastball League losing
two games last week.
Last Wednesday Gords
edged the Company 2-1
and Sunday it was
McGees turn as they
whipped Canada Com-
pany 7-2.
The losses allowed
French to move into a tie
with Canada Company
for first place in the
Maitland Division with 12
points.
The wins were also
important for Gords and
McGees as they moved
into a tie with Fishers for
first place in the Dunlop
Division. All three teams
have 10 points but Gords
has a game in hand.
An error, speed and a
timely single combined to
produce the winning run
for Gords in '$their 2-1
victory over Canada
Company, Wednesday.
With the game tied 1-1
in the sixth Phil Petrie
reached base on an error.
Petrie was put out at
second on Warren Watt's
ground ball, but Watt-
made
attmade up for it by stealing
second base and scoring
on Dennis Williamson's
single.
Gords took the lead in
the first inning on
Petrie's two -out, solo
home run. Canada
Company tied the game
in the third on Tom
O(Brien's single and a
run -scoring double by Bill
Durst.
Petrie and Williamson
and two hits apiece for
Gords while O'Brien had
two of the Company four
hits.
Des Courtney went the
distance in the win and
Stan Doherty tootthe
loss.
McGees got to Doherty
for five runs in the first
two innings Sunday and
coasted to a 7-2 win.
Canada Company
opened the scoring with a
single run in the top of the
first by Rob MacDonald
but the Pontiacs replied
with three runs in their
half of the inning.
Clare Harmon singled
and Rick Sowerby hit a
two -run homer to score
Harmon. Ken Daer
followed with a single and
scored on a single by
Dennis Lassaline.
The Pontiacs added two
Green and. Parent win 9-5
Greek and Parent
struck for seven runs in
the third inning and
breezed to a 9-5 win over
Little Bowl in Industrial
League action, Monday.
Green and Parent
combinedfour hits and
four errors to score seven
runs in the top of the third
and added two runs in the
fourth en rout to the win.
Little Bowl leads -coring
a single run in the first
inning but fell behind
after the seven run
outburst by Green and
parent. Little Bowl
scored four runs of their
own in the bottom of the
third inning to trail 7-5
Listowel rips
Jays 16'.O
The Goderich Blue
Jays were shut out 16-0 in
WOAA midget baseball
action. in Listowel
Monday night.
Listowel got a strong
one -hit performance
from pitcher Darwin
McCutcheon who silenced
the Goderich bats after
giving up a scratch single
to Dan 'Maillet in the first
inning.
Mike Hodges was the
starting and losing pit-
cher for Goderich, giving
up 1.2 runs on seven hits
and seven walks in the
first two innings. Maillet
came in on relief, giving
up four runs on four hits,
two walks and two bit
batters in the four innings
he worked.
The loss leaves the Blue
Jays with two losses in
league play, bothagainst
Listowel. In their season
opener, the Jays dropped
a 7-6 decision to the
Listowel team.
Last night (Wed-
nesday) the Blue Jays
were scheduled to°play in
Crediton.
Their next home start
will, be here Sunday af-
ternoon at 2 p.m. against
Exeter.

House league
motocross action con-
tinued at Hully Gully last
week in eight divisions.
• Hugo and Charlie
Maaskant finished first
and second respectively
in the Novice A final
while Dean Armstrong
took first place in the
Novice B final.
Dan Cozern won the
Enduro A competition
and Randy Ford was the
B division winner.
Adrian Kemps of
London was the top rider
in the Junior A final while
Wayne Ryerson of
Clinton took the Junior B
category.
Randy Ford of Grand ,
Bend won the peewee °A
final and Brad Arm-
strong of Goderich
finished second. Scott
wilson of London took the
Peewee B final.

Bayfield that gave
"Cherries Aweigh" its
closest finish yet. Mike
Gozzard in "Ari" was a
scant 34 seconds behind
"Cherries" which would
have put him in second
place in our club race. We

Laser sailors were out
again, and once again,
Dave Parsons finished in
the lead in 1:14:09 with
Dave Smith second in
1:17:21 and Mark Taylor
third.
Starting June 30th
there will be a Saturday
afternoon race; followed
by a "bring -your -own-']
barbecue. Sunday raees
in the summer -series will
start at 10 a.m. with
another afternoon race to
follow wherever possible.
