Kincardine -Maurer wins
Goderich Slowpitch tourney

Construction defeated
Goderich Menesetpark 8--

first champions of the
Goderich Slowpitch
Tournament.
Maurer capped the
three-day tournament
with their fifth straight
victory to top 22 entries in
the tournament and
claim the Labatt's
championship trophy as
A division champs.
The three-day double
knockout competition
attracted 22 teams from
the Goderich and Kin-
cardine area.
The final game was
Maurer's toughest test of
the tournament and
Meneset loaded the bases
in the final inning with
two out but a potential
rally was thwarted with a
routine fly to right field.
Kincardine led the
game 4-0 through the first
four innings of play but
Meneset got right back in
the game with a three -run
rally in the top of the fifth
to trail by a single run.
Maurer added a single
run in their half of the
fifth tot maintain a two -
run bulge and then
ignited for a three -run

hold an 8-3 lead going into
the bottom of the seventh

Fisher scored the win-

Fisher led his team
offensively hitting a
triple and single in three
trips to the plate and
scoring two runs. Miller
had two hits for Lakeport,
scored one run and drove
in another.
Fisher picked up the
win allowing two runs on
four hits.
Fisher returns to action
Sunday with a 5.30 p.m.
contest against Graham
Electric. Lakeport will
play Green and Parent at
7 p.m. Sunday.

Soccer tourney here,July 1
On Saturday the
Goderich United under -19
team played host to the
St. Thomas Kickers. The
St. Thomas team had
problems fielding a full
team, and decidedto go
all out with the seven
players on hand.
Mark Webb opened the
georin't well into the first
half. H[o*ever, St.
Thomas wasn't long and
on a breakaway by Ron
Bobier scoredthe tying
goal. By - half tithe it
looked as if the visitors
might squeeze out a tie.
In the second half
Goderich gained the
upper hand over a tireing
St. Thomas squad. Goals
by Randy Little, Mike
Reynolds and Dwi yne

4-1 for Goderich. Billy
Moore the -St. Thomas
goalkeeper played a
fantastic game and saved
many attempt by the
home team.
The Senior teams play
out of town this coming
'weekend. +?
A tournament on July 1
starts at 10:00 and one of
the visiting teams is from
Bay City.
Plumbers split
league games
The Goderich Hoff-
meyer Little Plumbers
earned a split in two Mid
Western Ontario Fastball
League games.this week.
Last Thursday the
Little Plumbers scored
five • runs in the tenth
inning to defeat Dublin
14-10 and Monday they
lost a 4-2 decision to the
Kitchener -Waterloo
Civitans.
The game against
Dublin was a free -scoring
\affair with lead changing
hands several times.
With the game tied 6-6
after seven innings
goderieh scored three
times in the eighth inning
to take a 9-6 lead.
Goderich held that lead
going into the botto-m of
the ninth inning but
'Dublin struck for three
runs in their final at bat
to force extra innings.
Goderich didn't fool
around in the tenth inning
and scored five runs and
held Dublin to a single
run in their half of the
inning to claim the 14-10
win.
Mary Kolkman led the
Little Plumbers of-
fensively collecting four
hits in seven at bats. She
belted three singles and a
triple and scored two
runs.
Karen Pond chipped in
with three hits and Sue
Kolkman, Bev .Wright,
Sandy Rowe and Diane
Melick added. two hits
apiece. Both of Wright's
hits were triples.
Wright went the
distance on the mound for
Goderich and allowed 10
runs on 12 hits. Goderich
scored 14 runs on 17 hits.
The K -W Civitans
defeated Goderich for the
second time this season
scoring two runs in the
bottom of the seventh
inning to break a 2-2 tie
and wi'n 4-2, Monday in
Kitchener.
The game was a one -
run affair throughout
until Kitchener scored
twice in the bottom of the'
seventh. Kitchener
scored a single run in the
first inning but Goderich
tied the game in the
fourth inning on a run by
Diane Melick.,
Kitchener again took
the lead with a run in the
sixth inning but Goderich
got that one back in the
top of the seventh when
Jenny More singled and
scored on an error.
Kitchener wrapped the
win with two runs in their
half of the seventh.
Goderich was held to
four hits in the game with
More, Melick, Sue Kolk-
man and Carol
Cruickshank each getting
a single.
Kitchener scored four
runs on eight hits off
Heidi Elliott.
The Little Plumbers
will play their next game
in Goderich Friday at 8.30
p.m: against.• Moorefield
at Agriculture Park. On
Wednesday June 27 they
will play in Waterford.

French ties for first place.

French Dry Cleaners
moved into a tie for the
Maitland Division lead
with two wins in
Industrial League play
'last week.
On Wednesday French
doubled Little Bowl 14-7
and Sunday they edged
Ziebart 7-6 after trailing
6-0. The two wins coupled
with two losses by
Canada Company moved
French into a tie with
Company for the division
lead. Both teams have
won six games and lost
three.
French piled tip a. big
lead against Little Bowl
scoring nine runs in the
second inning and three
in• the third to hold a 12-0
lead after three innings.
They scored their final
two runs in the fifth in-
ning.
Little Bowl made the
game respectable scoring
a single run in the fourth
and seventh innings and
ignited for five runs in the
fifth inning.
Wayne Kennedy led the
French 13 -hit attack with
three hits in four trips to
the plate. He doubled in
two runs in the second
and produced run -scoring
singles in the third and
fifth innings. He also
scored three runs.
George Sutton and
Garth Dickert added two
hits apiece.
David Patterson was
the top Little Bowl batter
with three ;hits, all
doubles, in four at bats.
He scored three runs and
drove in two. Bill
Chjsholam and Terry
Powell had two hits each.
Don McWhinney gave
up 10 hits in the win and
struck out seven batters.
French recorded their
second win of the week
fighting back from a 6-0
deficit after three inning
to defeat Ziebart 7-6.
Ziebart took the lead
with three runs in the
bottom of the second
inning on an error, walk
and two singles. They
increased that lead to six
runs in the third inning on
Rick Duckworth's three-•
run homer that scored Al
Sygrove and Don Parker.
French went to work
and scored two runs in
the fourth, four in the
fifth and a single in the
sixth to claim the win.
Bill Gallow capped the
four -run rally in the fifth
with a run -scoring triple.
Ron Klages scored the
winning run in the fifth as
he tripled with two out
and scored on Kennedy's
double.
Gallow was the game's
top batter with three hits,
two singles and a triple.
Kennedy and Sutton each
belted out a single .and a
double.
Duckworth sparked
Ziebart's offence with
two. hits, a homer and
double. He scored two
runs and drove in three.
French plays Gords
tonight (Wednesday) at
7.15 and Ziebart will play
Canada Company,
Sunday at 4 p.m.,
ungannon wins B title
Dungannon whipped
the Goderich Firemen 17-
6 at Agriculture Park
Sunday to win the B
Division championship of
the Goderich Slowpitch
Tournament.
With the victory
.Dungannon claimed the
Signal -Star trophy and a
cheque for $150. The
Firemen received $75 for
reaching the cham-
pionship final.
After losing their
opening round game to
Stothers, Dungannon
recorded four straight
wins for the title.
Dungannon was just a
few runs away from
entering the A division of
the double knockout
tournament losing their
.first game 5-3 to Stothers.
Stothers scored four runs
in the first inning and
added a single in the third
to complete their scoring.
The M.J. Smith squad
got three runs hack in
their half of the/third to
pull within two' runs of
Stothers but were held
scoreless over the final
four innings.
Dungannon had an
easier time reaching the
final disposing of
Goderich R and D 14-0 in
the second round and
rallied for an 23-13 win
Last inning rally lifts
Lakeport past Graham
Lakeport Steel scowl

inning to carry them past
Graham Electric 8-6 in
Industrial League action,
Sunday.
The win improved
Lakeport's record to five
wins against four losses

second place in the
Maitland Division. The
loss was the fourth of the
season for Graham but
they have nine points on
four wins and a tie and
are in second place in the
Dunlop 1,7ivision.
Graham led 6-5 heading
into the final inning but
two errors and a two -out
single by Brian
MacKenzie produced
three Lakeport runs and
the win.
Lakeport scored two
runs in the first inning,
three in the fifth and
three in the seventh.
Graham scored one run
in the second inning,
three in the fourth and
two in the fifth.
Carmen Fielder,
Wayne Draper and Tim
McLean had two hits
apiece for Lakeport.
Fielder doubled in -the
first inning to score two
runs and singled in the
third.
Draper doubled in a run
in the fifth inning and
singled in the three -run
seventh inning. He scored
two runs. McLean added
a run -producing single in
the first inning and a run -
scoring double in' the
fifth.
Losing pitcher George
Klumper had two hits for
Graham. He tripled in the
second inning and scored'
and singled in the fourth
to score a run.
Brian MacKenzie gave
up six runs on seven hits
and struck out seven
batters in recording the
win.

They met league rivals,
Port Albert in the semi-
final Sunday morning and
won handily 20-10 to enter
the final in the afternoon.
Dungannon scored
early on the Firemen in
the final game and
coasted to a 17-6 victory
to win the B cham-
pionship. •
The Firemen lost their
first round match against
Kinloss Saturday but
stayed alive in the
division with an af-
ternoon win over Tickers.
The Firemen played
their semi-final . match
Saturday night, their
third game" of the day,
and dumped the W and D
Coyotes 27-16 to earn a
berth in the B final,
Sunday.
Twenty-two teams
participated in the three-
day double knockout
tournament, the first
hosted by the Goderich
•Slowpitch League.
