A monster roamed the

growing a set of giant
ears. But before the
creature could turn the
town into a rabbit colony
the fearless men in blue
captured it after it holed
up in a Becker's Store on
South Street.
The plot may be far
fetched but it is true. The
monster did roam the
town, everyone it came in
contact with did grow
huge ears and it was
captured in the variety
store by an army of
Goderich police officers.
But the monster, its
victims and the police
officers were all Grade 8

movie .as part of a class
project.
The movie got its start
about six weeks ago in Al
Leggatt's Grade 8 class.
The students were asked
to write a composition on
any subject they chose
keeping in mind that the
essay may end up a
movie script. A1C the
compositions were turned
in -and the class picked
out one to turn into a
flick.
The students chose Liz
Bundy's yarn about a
monster that turns up in,
Goderich and roams the'
streets of town, Everyone
that the monster touches
ends up growing huge -
ears and after afflicting
about a dozen people the
creature walks into a
store. The. Goderich
police are .alerted and
rush to the scene and
capture it before it can do
further damage to
people's ears.
Once the script was
viellere
chosen by the students
the task of casting roles
and choosing locations
was `handled. The
students viewed a
number of films in the
classroom to get an
understanding of how
angles are taken and
scenes are shot and then
hit the streets to shoot
their own movie.
Leggatt said the
project was designed to
give the students and
understanding of what
goes into making a movie
and to allow them to have
some fun on a class
project. He added that
the project should `give
them something to
remember from their
Grade 8 year.
The, film was definitely
low budget. A camera
was borrowed from the
board of education media
centre to film part of the
flick and Leggatt donated
the use of his camera for
the remainder. Two film
cassettes were used to
• shoot the movie, ` one
purchased t y the `school
and the other 1Ry the
students. Leggatt
estimated the cost of the
film to be $6.73.
The film may never
have any type of premier.
Once the students have a
chance to see their.rw 4
they will edit the film and`
show, it in their class. If
they feel it is good the
rest of the Grade 8
students will see it. If it
gets a good reception it
will be taken to Grade l-
and possibly the rest of
the school.
But Leggatt is not sure
of the quality of the film
and is hesitant to take
any bookings. As he
points out if the film
cannot be viewed at all at
least the students saw the
project through and had
some fun.
"I'm happy with what
they've done so far and so
are they," he said.
Robertson School Grade 8 teacher Al Leggatt gives
Deb Pederson some last minute instructions for
camera work prior to shooting a scene in a film the
class is preparing as part of a school project. The
students wrote the film, did the casting of roles, set up
scenes for it and filmed it last week hoping to edit the
Dan Shaddlck charges from the Goderich police station Friday on his way to
the Becker's Store on South•Street to try to capture a monster that is roaming
loose in Goderich causing every human being it touches to grow a set of hideous
ears. Shaddlck, and the rest of his Grade 8 class at Robertson School, was
taking part in a film being produced by Al Leggatt's class as part of a class
project. The film capped a five to six week project and will be shown at the
