I have enquired from several of the above, and size to accommodate those wishing to rent seems almost always adequate. In regard to travelling a distance for recreation, 50 - 60 miles is just a leisurely jaunt today. There is no. need to mention a lighted . ball diamond in our twp. as the land has already been acquired by our council, the lights purchased and the recreational chair- man told us it would be in operation very soon (possibly three weeks). This appears to be the only popular sport in the township. I did not hear about a meeting called to consult the taxpayer in this regard, but again I haven't heard the grumbling in regards ' to the diamond that there is in regard to the building ofahall, . A new township shed is in the offering in the very riear future as the present one can not house all the equipment. In connection with the shed• are the council chamber's and archives rooms. Both of the latter are inadequate for present"day needs. If and -when our council. deems it necessary to replace the above, are they going to ask the taxpayers what they think about it? No, we would not expect them to as they appear to be a necessity. Without any legacy, the cost would be tacked•onto our tax bill. It might be a good idea in my opinion, to return the legacy to the estate and it could be put to greater use and bet- terment of mankind. I • have yet to see returned money refused. GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, THURSDAY, JUNE 21, 1979—PAGE 5 ttidLeitsforhjre The Canada Employment Centre for Students in Goderich has announced that this wegk, June 18 to 24, is Hire A Student Week in Huron County. Hire A Student Week is orpniz.ed each year to bring to the attention of the local business comm=unity and homeowners, the meds of many students for summer employment. It is hoped that in- creased advertising efforts during ,this week will result in a greater community awareness of the operation of the Canada Employment Centre for Students and how it can help the people of the area. proximately 885 students registered as looking for summer employment. This figure is only ap- proximate because some students may have found jobs after registering at the •Centre, without in- forming the Centre. The fact remains though, that there are many students seeking work in the area. There seems to be a special lack of jobs for high school and post secondary school girls. Susan Freeman, manager of the Canada Employment Centre for Students in Goderich and Exeter, has come up with a number of promotional activities for Hire A Student Week. On The staff at the Canada Monday, she and Mayor Employment Centre for Harry Worsell, kicked off Students meets in- the week by placing a dividually with each Hire A Student bumper student seeking work and sticker on the mayor's discusses his or her past truck. This will result in a time change for the classes to be operated at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. The summer school will operate for only two hours, rather than the four-hour period that had been planned. Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at•10:30. In view of the time change, students will only be able to take one course, although Ellison said he hoped the'shdete'r' time would result in more interest by students throughout the county. "Students can now leave Exeter at 8 a.m. and be home by 11 a.m." he explained. The main interest to date has come from elementary school students who wish to take remedial English ..• or mathematics. Students in grades seven and eight are eligible and already about 70 have signed up, from both public and separate schools. There is still . space available for secondary students wishing to take driver education. Ellison expects a number of secondary school students to sign up for improvement courses once they have ascer- 4iod their grades in the e ms currently being conducted in the Huron schools. It is hoped that there will be enough student interest to offer mathematics, English, history, geography, science and French. Students may make application until June 29. at their home schools and late registrations will be accepted at Clinton up to July 3. Classes begin July 9. Four special interest courses are planned, including tennis, bad- minton, girls' gymnastics and theatre arts. Registrations for these classes are to be made July 3 and 4 only at Central Huron or by phoning 482-3471. Buses will operate daily from the secondary schools,_, in Exeter, Goderich, Seaforth and Wingham. Canadas Birthday Les Fetes du Canada June 25 —July 1,19179.
