30. In memoriam
BARKER •
In loving memory of Percy
Barker who passed away one
year ago, June 18, 1978.
God knew that he was suf-
fering,
That the hills were hard to
climb,
So He closed his weary
eyelids
And whispered, "Peace be
thine."
Away 'in the beautiful hills of
God,
By the valley of rest so fair,
Some day, we know not
when,
We will meet our loved ,one
there.
—Lovingly remembered and
sadly missed by his wife
Beatrice. -24x
BEADLE

husband, father and gran-
dfather - Harry - who passed
away three years ago June
17, 1976.
Gone are the days we used to
share,
But in our hearts you're
always there.
The gates of memories will
never close,
We miss you ..more than
anyone knows.
With tender love and deep
regrets,
We who love will never
forget.
—Always remembered and
sadly missed, by all the
family. -24

'Beatrice Draper, who passed

DRAPER
In loving memory of a dear
wife, Clara Beatrice Draper,
who passed away June 16,
1978.
I oftensit and think of you,
And think of how you died,
To think you couldn't say
goodbye,
Before you closed your eyes.
The blow is hard, the shock
severe,
I never thought your death so
near,
And only those who have lost
can tell,
The pain of parting without
farewell.
It's sad but true I wonder
why?
The best are always first to
die.
—Always lovingly
remembered by husband
Elton Draper. -24x

LOCAL NEWS
Mr. and Mrs. Terence
Hunter celebrated their

on Thursday June 7 at
their home at R.R. 3,
Goderich. Some of their
family were able to join
them for their an-
niversary dinner. Their
many friends in Colborne
extend best wishes.
We welcome to

Also Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Bettger of Goderich who
have moved into their
new home at Menesetung
and Mr. , and Mrs.
Leeming who have
moved into their new
home on the Loyal road
north.
Mrs. Muriel Murphy
was elected president of
the CWL with Mrs.
Genevieve Madden first
vice-president, Mrs.
Anita Stemp, second vice-
president, Mrs. E.
McDonohugh, third vice-
president, Mrs. Sharon
Lassaline, secretary,
Mrs. Marty Hogan,
treasurer, Mrs. Ann
Stewart, spiritual, Mrs.
Eileen Leeking and Mrs.
Lois Chapman, social and
Mrs. B. Smith, telephone
committee.
A brief meeting
followed the election and
Mrs. Stemp presented a
report on the CWL con-
vention which was held in
Windsor early in May.
Guest speaker for the
meeting was Mrs. Cathy
Pride from the Huron
County Family and
Children's Services. She
spoke on abused and
neglected children and
young.
Mrs. Pride told
members child abuse is
sometimes difficult to
believe but stressed that
in reality it happens all
the time. She said many
people can't believe that
a parent could inflict
injuries on a child or
youth.
She said. there are
many types of abuse
including physical,
mental,. sexual and
verbal all oi',,which are
damaging to children and
usually prove to be
permanent in that the
abused child often passes
that abuse on to their own
children.
She said the county
could use a parent
anonymous program
pointing out there was no
such program in
Goderich. She said any
individual or group could
start up a group session
which could help solve
the problem.
Child abusers need help
according to Mrs. Pride.
She said many times
child abusers simply
don't know who to turn to
for help adding that a
parent group could
provide that help.
Mrs. Pride volunteered
to speak to any group or
individual wanting to do
something about child
abuse and told the CWL
there were 11 other
employees at Family and
Children Services that
could help out.
She showed the group
the. film A Chain to be
Broken which deals with
problems of child abuse.
The film showed child
abusers talking amongst
themselves discussing
their problems, their
fears and their troubles
trying to discover why
they abuse their children.
Child abuse knows no
socio-economic levels. It
is a problem.ifor families
in all income levels. Mrs.
Pride urged CWL ladies
to call the Children
Services at 524-7356 if
they suspect a child
abuse problem. -

A variation in the
program was a Ballet
