The Little Plumbers played three league games last week and lost to Oshweken 10-5 and 3-1 to Milverton in Goderich, Sunday. The games leaves the Little Plumbers with a record of one against three losses in their first four games. Os-hweken dumped Goderich 10-5 last Tuesday on the strength of a five -run eighth inning that broke the game open. Goderich fell behind 4-0 after three innings off play but scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings while giving up a single to Oshweken in the sixth to trail 5-3. Goderich pulled to' within a single run as Bantam girls whip Clinton in two games The Goderich Bantam girls softball team is off to an impressive start in their schedule having won their opening three games of the season. Clinton fell victim to the Goderich twice in the past week with Goderich winning games 36-9 and 19-15. The game in Clinton was a rout from the start as Godericli built up a 22- 5 lead after three innings on the strength of a 12 -run second inning. They added two runs in the fourth, eight in the fifth and four in the sixth in- ning. With the Jays leading 9- 1 in the fourth inning, the game was delayed by a heavy downpour which struck the Exeter area Sunday afternoon. The game was resumed and the Blue Jays, after adding another run in their half of the fifth, had one out in the bottom of the inning when the rain came again and the umpires called the game off with the Jays needing two more outs to make the game official, The game will be re -played at BY DAVE SYKES Ziebart got themselves back into contention in the Maitland Division with a win and a tie in two Industrial League games this week. Ziebart edged Fisher 3- 2 in eight innings Sunday and settled for a 4-4 tie against McGees, Monday to move into third place in their division with seven points. French and Lakeport share second place with eight points. The rustproofers got back to back doubles from Rick Duckworth and Len Kolkman in the eighth inning to score a single run and it was enough to shade. Fisher 3- 2, Sunday. Ziebart held the lead twice in the game and went ahead 2-1 in the top of the sixth inning as Duckworth doubled in Greg Hansen with the go- ahead run. Fisher .responded with the tying run in their fhalf of the sixth to force extra in- nings. Fisher pitcher, Fred Fellow, retired the first two Ziebart batters in the eighth but Duckworth laced his second double of the game. Kolkman followed with a clutch double to score the winning run. Duckworth 'led the Ziebart offence with two doubles in three at bats and scored the winning run. Simon Langlois chipped in' with a single and double in four trips to the plate. Langlois held Fisher to four hits in the game but three Ziebart errors led to both Fisher runs. Ziebart collected nine hits off Fellow in recording their third win of the season. Ziebart added a tie to their record of three wins and four losses, tying iVIcGees 4-4, in a nine - inning contest, Monday: Ziebart held a 4-2 lead after four innings of play but McGees combined two consecutive errors and three hits to score two runs in the bottom of the stxth inning and tie the score.. McGees took a tWo-run lead in the first inning as Pual Kelly walked, stole second and scored on Doug Spitzig's double. Spitzig then scored on a single by Ron Marshall. Ziebart got those two runs back in the second inning on a double by Al Sygrove and singles by Kolkman and Ron Corriveau. Ziebart then went ahead with a single run in the third inning by Hansen and Langlois doubled in Corriveau in the fourth to give Ziebart a two -run bulge. Errors cost Ziebart the game as Rick Sowerby and Ken Meriam reached base in the sixth inning on consecutive errors and scored to tie the game. Langlois topped the Ziebart batters with three hits in five trips .,to the plate including two doubles. Team-mates Sygrove and Corriveau added two hits apiece. Paul Kelly and Ron Sowerby had three hits apiece for McGees and Doug Spitzig added a pair of doubles. Langlois gave up four runs on . 12 hits while Ziebart collected their four runs on 11 hits off Rick Sowerby and ken Daer. Ziebart returns to action Sunday with an 8.30 p.m. game against French. Clinton put up a better struggle in the second meeting between the teams in Goderich Tuesday but a six run rally in the sixth inning lifted Goderich to a 19-15 win. Clinton led 7-2 after the first inning of play and maintained a 15-13 lead after five innings. But Goderich responded with a six -run outburst in the bottom of the sixth and held Clinton off the bases in the seventh inning to,, record the win. bs Jays win a later date. The Blue Jays had picked up one run in the first, five in the second, three in the third inning and one in the fifth on hits by Willie Denomme, David Moore, Larry Madge, Bob Graham, Dave Willis and Don Elliott. . Steve Pierce, the Exeter pitcher, had walked six and struck out four. Larry Madge, pitching for Goderich, had given up three hits, walked two, and struck out two before the game was called. The Jays make their next start Monday night in Listowel. Listowel defeated the Blue Jays 7-6 in their league opener last week. Pontiacs blank Lakeport 6-0 The McGee Pontiacs drilled Lakeport 6-0 to move into a three-way tie for second place in the Dunlop Division. The pontiacs scored five runs in the first in- ning and added a single in the fifth in a game that was called before the completion of the sixth inning. The win improved McGees record to three wins, three losses and two ties for eight points. They are tied for second spot with Fisher and Gords, one point behind division leading Graham Electric. The Pontiacs put together five runs on four hits while batting through the order in the first inning. Clare Harmon and Ken Daer doubled and Rick Sowerby and John Phillips singled in the first inning outburst. The Pontiacs added their final run in the fifth inning on doubles by Sowerby and Daer. Daer went the distance on the mound and turned in a Stingy one -hitter. His no -hit bid was nullified by a fifth inning single by Carmen Fielder. He struck out six batters and allowed only one other base runner, Fielder, who reached first On a second inning error. The Pontiacs got to Wayne Draper for six runs on seven hits. Sowerby and . Daer collected two hits apiece. McGees returns to action against Canada Company Sunday at 7 p.m. Dianne Melick scored in the top Of the eighth. But the roof fell in in Osh- weken's half of the eighth as they scored five runs to put the game out off reach. Lori Cruickshank scored the final Goderich run in the ninth inning. Norma Walter, Melick, Bev Wright and Karen Melady had two hits apiece for Goderich. Heidi Elliott and Bev Wright shared the mound duties for Goderich in the loss. Bev Beaver gave up 13 hits in recording the win. The Little Plumbers won their first game of the `:,year here Friday, scoring two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge Glanworth 7-6. Karen Melady and Diane Meick scored in the ninth inning on singles by Sandy Rowe and Bev Wright to clinch the win for Goderich. Goderich held a 1-0 as Jenny More scored in the first inning and that lead stood until the bottom of the third when Glanworth struck for two runs and added three in the top of the fourth for a 5-1 lead. Goderich responded with a single run in their half of the fourth with Sandy Rowe scoring. The Little Plumbers tied the game in the fifth with a ,three -run effort. Norma Walter led off with a walk, Sue Kolk- man singled and the pair scored on Melick's double. Melick then scored on a fielder's choice. Glanworth took the lead in the eighth inning scoring one run on two Goderich errors. Goderich fought back to win the game on runs by Melady and Melick in their final at bat. Rowe had three of the Plumber's nine hits in the game. She scored one run and drove in the tying run. Elliott and Wright shared the mound duties for Goderich and gave up six runs on seven hits. Goderich lost their second game of the week here Sunday to the Milverton Suns, 3-1. Milverton scored single runs in the first, second and fifth innings and it was enough to carry them past the Little Plumbers. Milverton capitalized on Goderich errors that led to two of the visitors runs. Goderich scored their only run in the eighth inning a s , Sue Kolkman walked, was " sacrificed to second and scored on • Carol Cruickshank's single. They had the bases loaded in that inning but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.: Goderich scored their only run on four hits, two of them by Bev Wright. Wright and Loren White ,allowed Milverton only three hits in the loss. The Little Plumbers will be in Dublin this Thursday and then will play , Kitchener in Kit- chener, Monday, June 18. Their next home game is Friday June 22 against Moorefield. (photo by Dave Muffitt) Slowpitch tourney Friday The Goderich Men's Slowpitch League will sponsor its first slowpitch tournament at Agriculture park this weekend. The tournament has attracted 22 area entries in its initial attempt and play will begin Friday at 6.30 p.m. and 'continue through to, the championship games Sunday afternoon. The 22 teams will play a totalof 31 games over three days with first round winners entering the A division to compete for the Labatts Trophy while first round losers will enter the B division and compete for the Signal -Star Trophy. Six games will be played Friday evening on the two diamonds at Agriculture Park, 20 games will be played Saturday and, five on Sunday. The B Championship game is set for 1,30 p.m. Sunday and the A title game will follow at 3 p.m. The tournament features 13 teams from the Goderich Slowpitch League as well as Carlow, Dungannon, Kingsbridge, Kinloss, Port Albert, Winthrop and three teams from Kincardine. There will be two games going on at all times Friday and Saturday and the first round schedule is as follows: Friday 6.30 p.m.-Stothers vs. Dungannon and Kincardine New Seasons vs. 1863. 8 p.m.-Meneset vs. R and D and Ki cardine Legion vs. Ticker B. 9.30 p.m. -Carlow vs. Signal -Star and Kin- cardine Maurer vs. Goderich Oldtimers. Saturday, 8 a.m.-Port Albert vs. Winthrop and Teachers vs. Coyotes. 9.30 a.m.-Firemen vs. Kinloss and Denomme vs. Orphans. 11 a.m. Kingsbridge vs. Tickers A. This is the thitd season of operation, for the Goderich league and their first attempt at a tournament. But there will likely b softie ng ball.
