und'rf About
Last weekend's 'cold
blast', after all the
humidity, certainly threw
us for a loop.
Luckily, Goderich did
not suffer from the heavy
wind .as did London and
down to Detroit; still, the
near freeze that came
along after the storm is
something you can tell
your grandchildren
about...near the middle of
Pune and we are
worrying about our
Tants freezing!
Doesn't make sense the
way the weather has been
behaving the last few
years. We can moan and
groan but it won't change
a thing, all we can do is
try to adjust quickly to all
these queer changes in
temps and wear
a...smile.
Somehow, I feel real
good about the Baechler
Lumber Mill back in
business. I mean the
REAL lumber business -
making things, cutting
and stacking those huge,
lovely piles of clean
smelling boards and big

logs that are waiting their
turn- Looks GREAT!
• It is a real long time
since I've seen the
Sellingers, beautiful -
peopIe7–ait I'm surely
glad they were able to
make that "Lumber
Corner" come alive
again. Good luck, Folks.
It is, great the way our
highway re -building is
shaping up. The' detours
Martha Rathburn
are a real challenge,
make you feel something
worthwhile is happening,
and it IS.
Outside of the fact that
we still have the big bend
from Bayfield Road to
Victoria Street using a
block of Britannia Road,
a very bad bend, things
are coming along real
fast and I hope our
tourists will understand
we are doing it all for
them.
Well, not ALL. Otir big
mistake is keeping the
highway in the centre of
the town. We are not
holding up traffic as
badly as our neighbour,
Kincardine, has done for
years. I think our council
was unable to move
traffic any better than the
Victoria St. way which
luckily does not force any
slow -ups on the folks who
wish .to go quickly
through these small
towns to . their
destination.
Kincardine, on the
other hand, has for all
these years forced a
terrific slow -down on
their narrow main street
with cars stopping and
slowing, ' just
ANYWHERE for the
shops and op Saturday
nites theyrciit one off
completely . with the
crowd enjoying the
Highland Band marching
down Main Street.
I cotrff- not. see that..
forcing traffic to go down
your main street would
with Martha
get people to stop and
shop at your stores. This
town of Kincardine is now
gr:atddynforg trtheaffic whowish
to get along andi'd like to
qay that I think their
!tourist trade will be much
better when folks know
they can get to the
parking spaces easily and
travel back and forth
without being held up by
trucks and passers-thru.
For our town to capture
tourists who had no in-
tention of stopping to'
shop or eat, all we need
are a few signs on each
highway TELLING of our
facilities and quaint and
historical town. AD-
VERTISE - that is the key
word. Curiosity will stop
them faster than a slow
down and it is much more
pleasant.
Our beautiful Square is
finally being given the
publicity it needs. The
merchants, many of
whom have really suf-
fered while trying to hang
on for the break that will
show us all that they
believed in the great
possibilities of our unique
Square, ' the
foresightedness of the
men who designed and
built our Square Now
