Canada Company
racked up two wins last
week to boast the best
record in. the Industrial
Fastball L`e'ague after six
games.
Last week the Com-
pany shutout Lakeport 3-0
and followed that up with
a 6-4 win over Little Bowl,
Sunday to extend their
season record to five wins
against one loss, the best
in the league.
The victories moved
Canada Company into
first place in the Maitland
Division two points ahead
off French and Lakeport.
Stan Doherty stopped
Lakeport with a neat one -
hitter and his effort was
complimented by near
flawless fielding by his
mates. Carmen Fielder
was the only Steeler to
reach base with a second
inning single off Doherty
and in the fifth inning he
was hit by a pitch. .
Canada Company
scored two runs in the top
of the first inning as Rob
MacDonald and Casey
Wildgen hit back to back
singles and scored the
first two runs.
Tom O'Brien scored the
third run in the fourth
inning as he singled and
socred on errors.

Canada Company got to
losing pitcher, Wayne
Draper, for six hits, with
MacDonald, Wildgen and
O'Brien connecting for
two hits apiece.
The company racked
up their fifth win Sunday
as Stan Doherty and Gler
Tigert hit solo home runs
to break a 4-4 tie and life
the Company to a 6-4 win.
Little Bowl had
managed to tie the game
in the bottom of the fifth
inning but Doherty
homered in the sixth and
Tigert added a solo shot
in the seventh to wrap the
win. It was the third
homer of the game for
Canada Company as Tom
O'Keefe also hit a solo
blast in the third inning
with two out.
Wildgen and Dave
MacKenzie scoredin the
first inning and O'Keefe's
homer in the third gave
Company a 3-0 lead.
Little bowl tied the game
in their half of the third
with John Crawford, Rob
Snell and Terry Powell
scoring runs. Little Bowl
then took a 4-3 lead after
five ' innings as Powell
scored on errors.
But Doherty homered
to tie the, game in the
sixth and Tigert's blast in•
the top, of the seventh
scored the winning run.
MacKenzie scored the
sixth Company run after
he walked and later
scored on Brian
record
Bowman's single.
Canada Company
returns to action Monday
with a 7.15 p.m. contest
against French. Little
Bowl will battle Gords
Sports on Sunday at 5.30
p.m. at Agriculture Park.
French moves into
second wit/rtwowjns.
French moved into a tie
for second place in the
Maitland Division with
two victories in Industrial
League action.
On Sunday they
blanked Fishers 3-0 and
added their second win of
the week with a 3-2 vic-
tory , over McGees,

Monday. The victories
leave French with a
record of four wins and
two losses, good for a
share of second spot with
Lakeport, two points
behind Canada Company.
Don McWhinney turned
in a fine pitching per-
formance stopping
Fishers on just two hits
and striking out four
batters.
French scored the
winning run in the bottom
of the first inning as Bill
Gallow doubled and was
chased home by Phil
Turner's double.
They scored their final
two runs in the fourth

inning as George Sutton
and Don McWhinney both
reached base on errors
and scored on Jim
McCarthy's double.
French managed only
five hits off two Fisher
pitchers but three went
for extra bases.
Fisher's only two hits of
the game went for -extra
bases but they were
unable to capitalize on
their chances. Jack
MacKinnon hit a two -out
triple in the first inning
but McWhinney struck
out Gerry Durst to end
the inning.
Dennis Lebrun hit a
one -out double in the fifth
but was also left stran-
ded. q.zy
French recorded their
second win of the week
Monday as they fought
back from a first inning
two -run deficit to edge
Mcqes 3-2.
McGees took ad-
vantage. of a leadoff
• double by Clare Harmon
and two errors to score
two runs in the top half of
the first inning.
French got one run
back in the third as Ray
Klages doubled and
scored on Ray Herd's
single. They took the lead
in the fourth inning on a
leadoff sinlge by Wayne
Kennedy and a follow up
triple by, „ Ron Klages.
Klages scored the win-
ning run as Sutton
reached base on an error.
McWhinney picked up
his second win of the
,week giving up two runs
on three hits but had little
support from his team-
mates who committed
five errors.
Rick Sowerby took the
loss allowing three runs
on five, hits and striking
out four batters..
French returns to
action against Canada
Company, Monday at 7.15
p.m.

The Waterloo KW
Dutchmen 'spoiled the

Little Plumbers debut in
the Mid Western Ontario
Ladies Fastball League
with a 4-2 win over
Goderich, Friday.
The Little Plumbers
put out a good effort in.
their return to Inter-
mediate Ladies fastball
after an. absence of 10
years. They held a one -
run lead after one inning
but surrendered three
runs. to Waterloo in the
second inning and a
single in the sixth.
The Little Plumbers
out -hit Waterloo 10 to
seven in the game but
committedthree errors
in the second inning that
led to three Waterloo
runs.
,Goderich took a one„.
run lead in the bottom of
the first inning on three
hits. With one out Norma
Walter singled and
scored on singles by Sue
Kolkman and Sandy
Rowe.
Waterloo took the lead
with their three -run effort
in the second inning but
Goderich narrowed the
-margin to a single run

Last inning rally lifts
Listowel past Blue Jays
The Goderich Blue
Jays lost their home
opener in WOAA midget
boy's baseball here
Sunday afternoon,
dropping a close 7-6
decision to Listowel, last
year's league champions.
The BlueJays led 6-3
going into the seventh
and final inning but
Listowel struck for four
runs on a bases loaded
triple by Darrell Nind
who then scored when the
Jays outfielder's throw
wound up in the dugout.
Darwin McCutchedn
was the winning pitcher
in relief for Listowel,
coming on in the seventh
to preserve the one run
lead his teammates
picked up with their four
run rally. Bob Johnston
pitched the first six in-
nings fear ,Listowel,
striking out nine and
giving up eight hits.
The Jays had the bases
loaded with two out in the
seventh but failed to
score.
Dan Maillet was the
losing pitcher, going the
distance for Goderich. He
struck out three and gave
up ten hits.
Larry Madge, Rob
McDonald and Dan
Maillet had two hits each
for the. Jays. Willie
Denomme, Mike Hodges
and Brian Shewfelt had
one hit apiece.
The Jays make their
next start Sunday in
Exeter at 4 p.m.
Bridge Club scores
Jean Papernick and
.Verna Worthy combined
for a point total of 82 to
top six tables involved in
a Howell game at the
June 5 meeting of the
Goderich Bridge Club.
A. Weerasooriya and
John Wood were second
with 79 points while Bill
Duncan and Joe Martin
were third with 731/2
points.
Marry Donnelly and
Eleanor Erskine finished
fourth with 73 points and
the teams of Jean and
Martin Stapleton and
Joanne Duckworth and
Lee Ryan tied for fifth
with 701/2 points.

single, stole second and
scored on Kolkman's
second hit iof the game.

Heidi Elliott went the

McIntosh.

the plate while team-
mates Walter and Rowe
added two hits apiece.
Walter scored both
Goderich runs.
The Little Plumbers
will be home for . two
games at Agriculture
Park this weekend as•
Friday they play Glan-
worth at 8.30 p.m. and
Sunday they will play a
rained out .game against
Milverton at 2 p.m.
Fitness
van here
June 13-15
The Fitness Ontario
testing van, sponsored by
the Goderich Recreation
Department, will be in
town from Wednesday
June 13 to Friday June 15.
The van will. be located
at the Grandstand and
testing will be conducted
on Wednesday and
Thursday from 2 to 9ap.m.
and on Friday front 10
a.m. to 5 p.m.
Anyone who wishes to
have their fitness level
tested and assessed
should make an ap-
pointment at the
recreation office on
Waterloo Street.
The test lasts for 60
minutes and the cost is
$15. The test consists of a
questionnaire, blood
pressure screening,
measures of respiratory
function, determination
of ideal body weight,
measure of muscular
strength, muscular en-
durance, flexibility and
aerobic capacity.

Green and Parent
scored two runs in both
the fourth and fifth in-
nings to overcome a two -
•run deficit and defeat
McGees 4-2 in Industrial
League action, Sunday.
The win was the second
of the campaign for
Green and Parent and
puts them into a tie with
Ziebart in the Maitland
Division.
' The Pontiacs opened
the scoring in the top of
the fourth with tow runs
an three hits. Paul Kelly
and Ken Meriam ledoff
the inning with singles
and both scored on
Dennis Lassaline's
double.
Green and Parent
responded with a two -run
rally in their 'half of the
fourthinning to tie the
game. ” John Warr
reached base on an error,
advanced on another
error and scored on
Leroy Meriam's single.
Meriams stole second
and scored the second
Green and Parent run'on
a wild pitch.
Green and Parent
scored the winning runs
in the fifth inr.ing with a
two -out rally. Jim Martin
and John Hodge singled
and scooted home on
Warr's double.
Jim Martin gave up two
runs on six hits in picking
up the win. Ken Daer
allowed four runs on
seven hits in taking the
loss.
Martin and Warr led
the Green and Parent
offence with two hits
apiece and they both
scored a run.
Dan Maillet drafted
by Windsor Spitfires
Goderich- Green and
Parent midget centro
Dan Maillet was drafted
by the Windsor Sitfires in
the Ontario Major Junior
A midget draft in Toronto
on the weekend.
The Spitfires selected
Maillet in the ? th"rotmd
of the draft. He 'was the
176th pick' of available
players.
Earlier in the season
Kitchener Rangers and
Peterborough Petes had
expressed an interest in
Maillet.
Maillet played all his „„,
minor hockey in Goderich
and was a member of the
Ontario champion
Bantam team in 1976-77
and was a also a member
of the Mustangs who
captured the Ontario title
this past season.
The Spitfires'enjoyed a
productive season this
past year before bowing
in a round-robin playoff
series.
Mero aces 10th
hole at Sunset

realized the ultimate
golfer's dream Saturday
recording the first hole -
in -one this season at
Sunset Golf and .Country
Club.
Mero aced the 10th hole
at Sunset, a 210 yard par 3
With a. hidden green,
using a 5 -wood.
It was the first hole -in -
one for Mero and the first
of the y.oung golfing
season in Goderich.
Mero's playing part-
ner, Randy . Miller, wit-
nessed the ace.
Joni Thompson and Dave MacKenzie were honored
as the top athletes at GDCI in a special awards)
ceremony, Monday. The two graduating students'
have been a dominant force In the school's sithletics
programs. Thompson was member of the girls
basketball, volleyball and track team while
MacKenzie was involved in track, soder,
